Paulina screeched, "There's a boy in my bed!!"
"When isn't there!!" Somebody shouted.
Danny looked at Paulina's bed, which was right next to his. His face went white. There lay Tucker, looking as if he was just waking up.
He groaned and stretched, happy to be out of that confined place, "Duude. That was so small. I'm all cramped," then he actually looked up. Every student stood around him looking down at him in shock. Tucker grinned, "'sup"
Someone muttered, "Jumping ship"
"What's going on here," Maddie pushed past the kids. She stopped when she saw Tucker, Jack appearing next to her, "Tucker?!"
Said boy looked sheepish, "Hi"
Jack was confused and Maddie frowned, "What are you doing here?"
"He wasn't chosen," Andrew added helpfully.
Tucker fidgeted, "Uuh...well..you see"
Danny raised his hand to catch his parents' attention, "I might have snuck him in"
Maddie's widened, "You did what?!"
Danny cringed. She's gonna be so mad.
And mad she was, "Daniel Fenton! You brought in someone without our permission?!"
"Would you have given it?!" Shut uuup, Danny told his mouth.
Maddie was scowling. The adolescents were watching with interest at the fight.
Tucker spoke up, not wanting his friend to take all the scolding, "It was my fault. I'm sorry, Mrs. Fenton"
Maddie snapped her head towards him and he flinched. Maddie was scary. "Yes, it is. You shouldn't have been here. But you don't know all the dangers of the Ghost Zone. You don't know about all the trouble you could get in. Danny does. He lives with us. He's our son. And he got you in here without our or your parents' consent!!"
Tucker wanted to point out that the other kids in this ship were in as much danger as he is. But he didn't. Just like he didn't point out that he did know what kind of trouble he could get in. He kept quiet.
The angry mother turned to Danny. He looked at her defiantly and ready to protect his friend. But there was a spark of fear in his eyes. He had stood up against bullies, ghosts, and an old man with three times more power than he has. But it all seemed a piece of cake as he stood here in front of his fuming mom. Sure, he'd seen her angry before but that was usually directed at Phantom. And as Phantom, he could escape her fury. Now, as Fenton and Maddie's son, he was powerless.
Jack placed his hand on his wife's shoulder. She looked at him still scowling but stopped when she saw him smile reassuringly. She understood and her expression softened. Maddie looked at Danny sternly and inspected his face. She saw nervousness and slight fear. But she also saw stubborness. There was no regret in his expression. He didn't feel sorry for bringing his friend and he would do it again. No amount of scolding would change that. However, he wouldn't get away with it that easily.
"Very well. Seems like Tucker will have to join us. However.." she interrupted the two celebrating friends. They looked at her expectantly, knowing they were gonna get to hear their punishment.
Maddie looked at Danny's bed, "There are only eighteen beds for those who were allowed to come. So we're one bed short. Tucker..," she looked at Tucker and he cringed, "you will sleep in Danny's bed and Danny will sleep in the cockpit."
Tucker didn't know wether to cheer or to pout. He got to sleep in a comfy bed but he wouldn't get to stay alone with all the technology at the front and have all 'night' to investigate every nook and crany of the stuff.
