12. The Match Making

Hey guys!

Another update! Yay! I'm on a roll here. It's the second update in one day. Being sick is working out for me I guess. I can't go out or study for my exams so I'm writing away my sorrows. My condolences to all other sick readers out there. I feel for you bro.

The only good thing that came out of this is I didn't have to cook. My neighbor brought me soup and pie. Yay! So I'm being lazy for the whole weekend.

Now off to the story.

I took a step back and looked at my closet one last time before closing in and beaming with happiness. For the past two hours I was sorting my closet. I had so many clothes it wasn't even funny. But I have nothing to wear most days. Its so annoying. Its 2 in the noon presently and I was bored out of my mind. I already finished all my chores so I had nothing else to do. And I was done with my exams just the previous week so I had nothing much to study as well. I decided to give Mon a call.

She picked up on the second ring.She must be as bored as me. "Hey Ev. Wassup?" She greeted enthusiastically.

"Hey Mon.I'm bored.What are you up to?" I asked hoping she had something interesting to say. Turns out she had nothing great to tell me as well.

After talking about random stuff for about 10 minutes we somehow got onto the topic of my neighbor. So I ended up telling her about the drunk fiasco the previous day. By the time I was done she was so sorry she missed it.

"So dear Mattie just let him go while he was drunk?" She said at the end of it and I rolled my eyes. "He was sleeping Mon. Jace didn't tell him he was leaving." I defended Matt. It wasn't his mistake tbh.

"Yea sure."She replied sarcastically and I could picture her rolling her eyes. I squinted my eyes at this. It wasn't like Mon to hate on someone just or the sake of it. Unless. Wait!

"Mon. Do you like him?" I asked in a high pitched tone. I am so excited!! If Mon liked Matt that would be the best thing ever! I ship them so hard.

"Who?Jace? No. He's all yours." She responded coolly.

"What? No! I was talking about Matt. And Jace isn't mine and I don't want him." This girl is crazy.

"Mattie? Ha. You wish.No.No No!" She half yelled in a defensive tone.

"Sure you don't." I taunted in a teasing. I I knew Monica,which I do, the only time she got like this was in the first year when she liked this guy who sat behind her desk. She would pick fights with him unecessarily and get defensive about it.

"Whatever. You know what I gotta go. I'll call you later." She didn't give me a chance to answer and cut the call. I smiled to myself like a cheshire cat. Mon and Matt sitting in a tree K I S S I N G.

I decided to watch some Tv when I heard a knock on my door. I peeped through the hole to see Jace standing there nervously. I straightened my top and opened the door.

Jace was standing there in a dark green polo shirt and dark jeans with what looked like a pie in his hands. He looked at me and gave a small smile when I opened the door. I gave him an amused smile.

"Hey Jace." I greeted him brightly.

"Hey Eva." He replied a lot less brightly compared to me.

" So whats up?" I said when he didn't elaborate on why he knocked on my door with a pie in his hands.

"Um I just wanted to say sorry for yesterday." He said nervously but looked really sincere. I gave him a broad smile in return.

"Its fine.It wasn't a big deal." I reassured him.

"Its just I never really had alcohol before so I was pretty out of it." He explained.

"Like I said. Its not a big deal. By the way did you know you were much more social when you're wasted?" I asked in a amused tone.

He gave me a flat look and held the pie up to me. "I just wanted to say thank you and give you this." He looked anywhere but me.

"You baked a pie?That's so sweet." He looked really uncomfortable and his cheeks turned slightly red.

"Yea well I didn't know if you liked flan." He shrugged and I laughed at how cute he looked.

"Thank you for the pie Jace." I gave him a broad smile and invited him inside so I could put the pie in the kitchen. He stood in the middle of my living room and stared at the photos he commented on yesterday. I smiled to myself at that. He tried to hide a small smile as well but I saw the corners of his lips twitch upwards.

"So how's Matt?" I asked trying to make conversation.

"He's fine. Wouldn't shut up about your friend though." He sounded annoyed at the last part. I laughed at that.

"You know I think Mon likes him as well. I'm not sure. But it seems like it." I tried to hide my huge grin but looks like he saw it. He had an amused smile as well.

"They are both stupid." He said and I shook my head at him.

"They are cute."

"They aren't doing anything about it though." He told me when I looked like I was planning their entire wedding in mu brain.

"Yea. I know." I sighed disappointedly. They both seem to like each other but neither of them did anything about it. They would make such a great couple though.

"Why isn't Matt asking her out though?" I asked Jace curiously. I know Mon was scared of getting close to a guy easily. She didn't want to get her heart broken. She learnt a lesson from me and Caleb. We all did.

"I guess he's scared that she might reject him.He took a chance on the party that day but it seemed to blow up. So he's not sure right now." He shrugged uneasily. I don't get why is it so hard for guys to talk about this stuff. Guys are wierd.

"I get it. But so is Mon. It won't help them if either of them doesn't do something about it." I told him frankly. I wanted my best friend to be happy and I'm sure Matt can do that.

"Well we could do something about it if either of them aren't." He said in devious tone and I gave him a confused look.

"What can we do?The last time didn't work out so well if you remember." I reminded him of the last time I tried and failed.

"I think we can try one more time."He stated.

"I'm listening." I was curious now.

"I was thinking we could arrange for them to meet. So that they can actually connect and sort out their shit." He aid casually.

"And how do you suggest we do that?" I raised my eyebrow at him. "Its not like we can orce them to go on a date."I wasn't trying to be a party pooper but I knew Mon wouldn't really be up to it.

"You can hang out with Monica the same place where I will be with Matt." He told me and I started getting excited at that.Surely Mon wouldn't say no to hanging out with me.

"So you're saying we don't tell them that the other is going to be there?" I asked him with an curious expression.

"I guess. If that what it takes for them to hang out." He shrugged.

"It'll be great. Neither of them can complain. It'll just be a 'coincidence.'" I told him air quoting the coincidence.

He gave a devilish smile at this. "No. It's going to be a double date."

I stared at him dumbly and let me tell you this.He never looked more handsome before.
