Dark (The Past Never Changes)

Chapter 53

Bree's POV

I started stuffing my face with Kaylee's fruit loops like five minutes ago, or so it feels like it's been five minutes. I'm surprised she thinks I wouldn't do this, even in the state we're both in. I thought too soon and I hear her coming down the stairs. I panic and think of what to do to keep them from her. The first thing that comes to my mind is pouring them on the floor, so that's what I do. She walks in with the most hurt face I've ever seen and it looks like she's gonna cry.

"What are you doing?" She whines. I shrug and look to the floor.

I stay silent as I watch her fall to the floor. She starts scrambling to pick up the fruit loops.

"Five second rule! Five second rule!" She says and I laugh.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Times up." I laugh at her. She realizes she only picked up like ten fruit loops and throws them back on the floor.

"Fuck!" She yells and falls on top of them crying. I start to to laugh, but I don't know why. The boys walk in and the smell of weed fills my nostrils.

"You smoked with out us?" I frown.

"You guys definitely don't need anymore pot." Ashton says picking up Kaylee off the floor. Harry walks over to me.

"You smoked my weed." He frowns.

"It was in my room, so technically it was mine." I protest.

"Kaylee, it's okay I'll buy you more fruit loops." Ashton tries to calm her.

"No! I got it." She smiles picking up the phone. "Riah will buy me some!" Her mood completely changed from full on crying to smiling and calling Mariah. This is too confusing for me right now so I take a deep breath and hold my head in my hands.

"What's wrong?" Harry asks.

"I can't think." I answer.

As soon as I say that, we all start laughing, over nothing at all. I'm leaning on the counter, Harry's not facing any us, Ashton's bent over, and somehow Kaylee ended up on the floor again. That makes me laugh harder and I have to crawl on the floor to get to the living room so I can stop laughing. I try to crawl over Kaylee, but she grabs my leg just as I was about to leave the environment.

"Bree! What are you doing?" She asks.

"I'm trying to escape, let go!" I answer. She laughs at me which causes me to laugh more.

"You can't go! I wanna cuddle with my best friend!" She pulls at my foot.

"No!" I try to grab onto the wall. I just barely catch the edge and Kaylee cries again.

"Love me!" She yells.

"Love your boyfriend! I'm on a mission!" I say and we all laugh again. I can't see Harry or Ashton and I think they're on the floor now too! "Stop it, I have to pee." I pull.

"What the hell is going on in here?" I hear someone yell and I look up to see Mariah with fruit loops in her hand. When did Kaylee even call her? Oh well.

"Uh. Kaylee is preventing me from going to the bathroom." I answer.

"You naughty people! I know what you were doing. I can smell it." She shakes her head with a smirk on her face.

"Riah! I missed you." Kaylee lets go of my foot and crawls to Mariah, hugging her leg. I find myself being picked up and I realize that Harry has calmed down a little and helped me get off the floor.

"Here." Mariah hands Kaylee the box and Kaylee opens it and starts eating.

"Okay. Well what now?" I ask. They all shrug.

"Micheal, want some?" Ashton asks. Micheal looks to Mariah and she shakes her head.

"Please just once!" I beg. "One time! That's it." I take her hand and beg some more. "Please please please please please plea-" I'm cut off.

"Okay! One time!" She yells and I jump up and down.

"We'll be back." Ashton says and Michael and Mariah follow him out the back.

Kaylee's POV

Mariah, Ashton, and Michael walk in. Mariah starts laughing which makes the rest of us laugh really hard too.

"What the hell is going on in here?" I look up see Devin walking in the front door.

"I called her for back up." Mariah giggles.

"What did you need back up for?" Bree asks, but then laughs.

"Well Kaylee called me to buy her fruit loops. She usually does things on her own." She explains.

"Are you high?" Devin asks. We all look at each other not sure of what to say and then laugh.

"Yeah, they are." Tony says.

"Want some? There's a bowl already loaded!" Ashton asks.

"Yeah!" Tony says and steps past Devin.

"What?" Devin asks.

"Come on, babe. It's fun, just one time." Tony pleas.

"Okay." She sighs.

"Really?" Bree, Mariah, and I ask in unison.

"You guys look like you having a ball." Devin smiles.

"Only guys have balls." Bree says and falls over laughing. The rest of us start laughing too and soon Devin and Tony follow Ashton outside.

I never thought I would get high with all of my best friends. I got high with Devin and Bree back in highschool, but even those times seem so ancient. The one I was most surprised about was Mariah. I was too high to focus on what was happening. All I cared about was that she brought me fruit loops. She came inside and was high. But this is nice. Just knowing people have your back, even in the worst situations. Things haven't gone bad, not yet anyways. And the more my high goes away and the more I think about it, I can't help but feel like shits about to go down hill.
