Chapter seven

Standing in front of Her grave only made it more real for me. I couldn't help but think that I could have saved if only I had more time. I thought I could save her but I couldn't. I failed to save her and now she's dead. Cold and six feet under. Alone in the dark.

That night after Prince William went home I crawled into her bed and cried. When I woke up this morning I was numb and my chest hurt from crying all night.

But last night when I did go to sleep Rosemarie came to me in a dream. She told me everything was going to be all right.

But it doesn't feel like anything was right anymore.

I can't feel at all anymore.

Prince William stopped by with his family to speak to me as I mourned over Rosemarie's grave.

"We're very sorry, my dear." Says queen Ella. I smile kindly at her but I couldn't say anything.

"If you ever need us, Prince William knows where to find us." Says the king. He pats me on the back and walks the queen back to their carriage.

"We got these for you." A little voice says I look down and it was one of the young girls. I smile at her and take the flowers from her and lay them on Rosemarie's grave. "Thank you. Lilies. These were her favorite. She'll appreciate it."

She gives me a hug and runs off.

"Elena." I look up and it was William.

"Yeah?"

"I'm serious, if you need me let me know. Ill be stopping by to check on you, okay?"

"I'm not a little girl, William. I'll be okay."

"I'm my not saying you are, Elena. But believe it or not I care." I didn't reply and he stood beside me for another minute then walks off.

I hear the horses hooves pounding on the ground as they run off.

I walked slowly back home. I was stopped by John. "Hey girl."

"John."

"I'm sorry to hear about that Rosemarie of yours."

I didn't reply.

I didn't know how to.

"You don't have to work today, here's some bread."

I tried to refuse. "No, I can't."

"Of course you can. Just take it."

I took it and said a small thank you and goodbye.

And it happened with the butcher too! He gave me this huge hunk of meat and apologized for my loss and and cheating me out of that meat that day.

Soon It was getting hard to carry all of the stuff. I didn't bring my satchel so I had to carry everything in my arms.

As soon as I got home I dropped everything on the kitchen table. "I--" I started but realized that I was alone.

Forever alone.

I put the stuff up and walked into Rosemarie's room. Everything was like it was. Bed was messed up still.

I wanted it to be like she was still here. But she wasn't. She's never coming back.

I walked down the hall an stopped at my mother and father's room. I never could work up the courage to open the door to see what mystery lies behind the door.

I still couldn't to this day. I touched to door knob but I didn't try to turn it.

My fingers slowly slipped from the knob as I walk away. I go to my room and fall onto my bed soon dreamless sleep overcomes me.
