Chapter Fifteen

***Elena's POV***

We jump and stare at each other, we all had the same thought.

"Could it be?" I whisper.

"It could, to be safe, go out the back. Go through the woods. The nightingales will guide you."

I nod and start to leave. I turn to look at him, "thank you, Charles. I'm glad we finally met."

"This may be the last time as well please leave immediately."

"But, I just met you." My voice quivers.

"I can hear you!" The voice growls.

"Go now!" Charles says and pushes me into William, who drags me out of the building.

"No! Charles!" I reach for the door but William pulls me away leading me to my house.

We get there and I run into the kitchen William slowly coming behind me. "Elena--"

"He perhaps was the only other relative I had!" I scream at him.

"I know Elena! But whoever that was could have killed you!"

"They probably killed Charles! Thanks to me! I couldn't save him."

"You never could in the first place."

I flinch at was he says. I knew it was true but it cut deep. "I think it's time you leave."

"What?"

"It's time for you to leave, and don't come back. In fact forget about me and never come back." I spit the words at him.

He looks shocked but regained his position. He glares at me, "fine but you'll regret saying that."

"Well, if I do you won't ever know it."

"Fine!" He yells and slams the door behind him.

Instantly, I felt guilty and utterly alone. I wanted nothing more than to run after him but my pride stood as a statue.

What was I going to do now?

I'm completely alone, I lost the only relative I had and the only one who believed in me.

I groaned out loud and walked to my room. I stopped right outside my parents room. I never had the courage to open it and see what was left of them and Im still afraid to do so.

What if there was something in there that could help me? I took a deep breathe and jerked the door open.

But standing there was all I could do. It looked the same from when I was a child; the night mother and father left. They were fussing with a big scary man. He didn't see me when I was peeking into the room nor did my parents.

My mother was crying and father was comforting her. She was holding a bunch of papers. I looked around and saw the papers on the floor.

What could they be? Could they be the key?

I ran in and snatched them up. They were letters addressed to me. But that didn't make sense. I kept reading and they explained Charles.

I gasped, he was my great grandfather!

Everything he said was true! I grabbed all the papers and started to run back to Charles' bookstore when I slipped and fell, I looked at what tripped me and it was a letter I had missed.

Dearest Elena,

I know you're wondering why we left you in such a rush and it pains to leave you behind. Your father and I want to protect you from the deal our ancestors broke. We will leave for Geneva later this evening. No one must know I'm writing this to you. Though I may write to you when I have gone but it'll be done of secrecy. For no one can you are in existence or people will try to hunt you down and kill you as well. Please try to understand that we mean well and please forgive us when I tell you we may never see you again. And I must tell you that...

The writing stopped mid sentence, what was my mother trying to tell me?

I had to find Charles and quick before it was too late.
