Chapter Eighteen
***William 's POV***
Geneva?!
Why Geneva?
I couldn't wrap my head around her crazy request.
"William? Is that you?" Shy Erica asks.
"Yeah." I call.
"Back so soon?" She comes into the stall with a beautiful smile.
It quickly vanishes, "what is the matter, William?"
"Oh, uh, it's nothing." I mutter and turn away from her.
"Excuse me for saying this though I may have just met you, it seems that something is bothering you. Do know that I am here for you. I will listen."
I took a deep breath and sat down on a bench. She takes the seat beside me.
"It's this girl..." Though I felt bad at her expression I kept going. "She's an orphan. Our age but she doesn't have anyone and she lost her only friend and a relative she never knew she had. She wants to find her parents and I think that's why she wants to go to Geneva."
"Geneva? Why that's my home country."
"It is?"
She nods, "yes perhaps I know her parents?"
"Maybe. Lets talk to her tomorrow if we're not too late." Erica smiles at me and starts to walk back to the castle. I grab her hand and she turns to look at me.
"Thank you. Truly, to have someone to talk to helps. I appreciate it a lot."
She smiles big, "it was my pleasure." She kisses my cheek and quickly walk off, leaving me stunned.
****
"Prince William?"
I groaned and rolled around in my bed.
"I'm sorry to bother you, sir, but Lady Erica requested you down stairs immediately."
I groan again and sit up my bed. I yawn stretching. I slowly get dressed and walk down stairs to where Erica was waiting for me in the library wing.
"You take longer than I and my mother does combined."
"No sleep last night."
"I'm sorry. We must be on our way, you don't want to miss your friend."
I was suddenly awake. "You're right, I hope we're not too late."
I quickly walked to Henry with Erica on my heels. I put her on Henry and we ride into town. I saw her heading for a horse.
"There she is." I say to no one in particular. "Elena! You are heading for Geneva, right?"
"Yes." She says slowly eyeing Erica.
"This is Lady Erica. I brought her today because she's from Geneva. I thought maybe she could help you."
Elena just stood there stunned. I didn't know what else to say but Erica cleared her throat slightly.
"Perhaps Elena I could help you find a nice place to stay while you visit?" Elena looks from me to Erica back to me. She seemed lost for words.
"Um, P-prince Will-"
"No, just William." I shock my head as i interrupt her.
"William." She starts again. "May I have a word alone?" She smiles nervously at Erica. Erica returned a smile back.
"Sure. Do excuse us, Erica." I smile at her. She nods as we walk a little ways from her.
"What the hell are you doing to me, William?" She whispers fiercely.
"I thought you would appreciate the help."
"What did you tell her, William?" She asks.
"I--just--" I was lost for words.
"You told her, did you?" She looks at me with disappointment. She walks off toward Erica. I slowly make my way to them.
"-- yes, it's very lovely this time of year! What makes you want to stay there?"
"Stay there?!" I interrupt them. Shocked, Elena glares at me. "Didn't I tell you? I plan on staying in Geneva."
"No, you didn't. This is absurd, Elena. You can't honestly expect me to believe you want to live in Geneva."
"And why not? I have no one here. Rosemarie died and I'm sure Charles is too."
"You do have someone."
"Who would that be?" She laughs bitterly. I hesitate, I can't tell her in front of Erica. The one I have to marry.
"Exactly. Look, I'll even write you letters every now and then." She looks at Erica. "So you'll help me?"
Erica nervously glancing between me glaring at Elena and Elena anxiously waiting for Erica to answer.
"Um," she speaks shyly. "If that's what you want, Elena."
