Chapter Thirty One

"Shh, she'll hear you." Jospeh's whishper startled me awake and I shot up quickly. I noticed Johnathan and Joseph sneaking out of the stables followed by a small figure that looked like me. I was suddenly wide awake and took hold of Erica's arm. She squealed and tried to get away from me. "Where do you think you're sneaking off too?" It was so strange looking at her because i felt like I was looking in the mirror. "I'm doing what i should been doing in the first place, Elena. Now, let me go."

"Are you insane?!" I barked at her. "You'll get yourself killed!"

"I know what I'm doing! Let me go!"

"Erica, you don't know what you're getting yourself into. We're talking about committing murder here!"

"I know, Elena, that's what we've been talking about for the past week! This is something I need to do, not you."

"Do you really want that massive weight of guilt on you? You won't be able to live with yourself."

"Oh, and you would be able too?"

"I was willing to make that sacrifice, Erica. For you."

"Well, things have changed. I will now make the ultimate sacrifice for my family." She was such an innocent girl but looking into her eyes I saw a burning red flame and I knew I couldn't stop her in the end but I wasn't going to give up.

"I'm sorry, Elena." Erica says suddenly, confused I just stared at her until I felt a horrible pain shoot through the back of my head and I was falling into darkness.

"Elena!"

I hear a voice calling me. Confused, I realize that I was in the stables with a massive headache.

"Elena!"

The silhouette of the voice came into view and as it grew closer I noticed features started to form and I cried out to the silhouette, I caught a glimpse of eyes I never thought I would ever see again and began to cry.

"W-William!" I shove myself into his embrace. "I-I thought I would never see you again!" I sobbed holding on to him so tight as if he would fly away.

"I'm here, I'll never leave you." He takes my hand and squeezes it tight.

"I-I thought you weren't going to make it. I thought I lost you forever." I sobbed into his chest. He helped me up off of the hay I had been sleeping on. Memories started to flood in and I began to panic, "Erica! She's in trouble! We have to help her!" I try to pull william out of the stables but he only held me tighter.

"Elena, wait--"

"There's no time, Erica is posing as me, so she can kill--"

"I know."

"No you don't, you weren't--" I stopped struggling and looked up into his eyes. "You-you know? How?"

"Jonathan told me everything. It worked, Elena. He's dead. No ones going to try to kill you now."

"He's d-dead?" It actually worked?

"You're safe now." He says softly.

"And Erica?" She had a lot of explaining to do about last night.

He hesitated but finally answered, "She's in the infirmary."

"Why is she in the infirmary?" Panic rose in my throat and I quickly shook my head. "Take me to her."

"Elena--"

"Please, William!" He heard the panic in my voice and merely nodded. He led me to the castle. The halls were bare and everything was quiet. "William?" I say softly. He had stopped at the door and just stared at it as if it could open on its own. He quickly turned to face me, his expression was troubled. "Willaim, are you okay?"
