Twenty Seven

Chapter Twenty Seven

***Elena's POV***

There I was standing in front of the one who betrayed me before she even knew me.

She looks around, comes closer and whispers, "you shouldn't be here."

"What are you going to send me back there?"

"I didn't send you there! It was my boss. I had nothing to do with it."

"But you knew it was going to happen, right?"

She looks down, guilty. "Yes, I did. But I couldn't fight back! You have to understand! He would have killed me and my mom! Our mom!"

"Mom." I whispered. "I want to see her!"

"You can't! She'll freak and give you away and we're all doom."

"Erica?" Johnny whispers behind me. I had forgotten he was here and had heard all of this conversation and by the looks of all the color draining from Erica's face she didn't know he was here at all.

"Johnny, I-I can explain!"

"No," he shakes his head and somehow I do believe I just ruined a secrete romance. He turns and start to walk away but I stop him.

"Wait, Johnny, you can't leave her."

He looks at me for a moment and sighs, "you're right." A tear forms in Erica's eyes as she hugs him. I wonder how long as this been going on.

"Since I got here and he helped me out of the carriage." Erica says.

Stunned that I said what I was thinking out loud I kept my mouth shut.

"She's the most beautiful creature I ever laid eyes on. She's funny, smart and the sweetest thing. I want to be with her forever." I smile at them. They were so happy together it made me think of William and I and I frowned knowing we could never be together.

"I want to be with you to but my families life depends on my marriage with William."

"Families. That includes Joseph!" I thought out loud. I had forgotten about Joseph. I started to panic. I had to find him and make sure he was okay.

"Oh you mean the new farm boy?"

"Farm boy?" Erica and I say at the same time.

"Yeah he arrived an hour before you, Elena. He's in the pasture. Why?"

"He's my brother." We say again at the same time with glee in our eyes.

"Well let me take him to you then."

"Elena, you need a disguise. No one can know you're you." I nod and let Johnny hand me old clothes. I hid in one of the the empty stalls and changed into the ragged clothes

"What about my hair?" I saw their mouths start to open an I said, "I'm not chopping my hair off." Both mouths clamp shut.

"Here, where this straw hat. Just tuck your hair into it." I grab the hat and do as I'm instructed.

"How do I look?"

"Actually quite horrible but that's good." Johnny says. Erica slaps him on the arm and I roll my eyes.

"Let's go."

We head out to the pasture to see where Joseph was and we spot him at the back fence far from the castle.

"Jos-!"

"Shh, he'll hear you." Joseph had grabbed my face and covered my mouth. "He's here, I can't let him-" he stops and looks behind me. "Erica." He whispers. He let's go of my mouth slowly and I could see tears in him eyes.

"Joseph, what happened to you? What are you doing here?"

"I was thrown into the dungeon. I was being tortured and half starved."

"Dungeon? They told me you were on your way to Wales to study to be a doctor."

"I thought so too until they gagged me and threw me in the dungeon."

"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry, Joseph, I didn't know. If I did I-"

"You what? Get yourself killed? I couldn't let you do that."

They embraced each other into a tight hug. It was hard to believe they were twin when they weren't together but now you can spot everything that made them the same.

A tear came to my eyes to see the love and affection Erica held for her brother. It honestly made me jealous but I had only realized they were my siblings and they knew it their whole life.

Anger started to heat in my heart for the fact that the monsters that took my mother and father from me and destroyed my chance to be apart of this. I wanted to march into that castle, find the man responsible and just kill him.

I was never a violent person but the thought of not having a family because someone deliberately took them from me sparked my anger and I just had my first taste of revenge on my tongue and I wanted more.

"Elena? Earth to Elena? Is anyone in there?" Joseph waves a hand in my face. I must have zoned out thinking. I shook my head and cleared my thoughts.

"Yeah?"

"You were balling your hand up and you looked angry. Are you okay?" I looked down and my hands we're clench and I released them they were starting to cramp up.

"I'm sorry guys. I-I'm just worried."

"That was you're worried face?" The twins looked at each other. "I'd hate to see what your sad face looks like."

"I'm worried about William."

Soon as I said his name, Joseph's eyes opened wide in realization. He turns to Erica. "Prince William is in trouble. They're planning on killing him right after your wedding and marrying you to become king. We have to warn The Prince."

I start to run toward the castle.

"Elena, no! He'll kill you!" Erica cries and runs after me following the two boys.

I stop at the castle gates and Erica meets up with me. "Elena, you can't. If he finds out you're here he will kill you."

"He's planning on killing William. He has to be stopped."

"You can't do it alone."

"I will if I have to."

"You won't have to." I hear Joseph's voice behind me.

I turn to face him, "what do you mean?"

"He's tortured me enough. I want revenge."

"And he's taken my free will to live." Erica says.

"I have nothing against him." We all look at Johnny. He was starring at Erica. He grabs her hand. "He's what brought us together. If it weren't for him we wouldn't have met. But if he tries to hurt Erica again. I will kill him."

"So then it's settled." Erica looks at me. "You're not alone in this. We're all here to support you and we'll never leave your side again."

I smiled. This was my family. I had my family back together. Know all we need to do was safe our mom and protect William. "Let's do this then!"
