Chapter nine

***Elena's POV***

It's been four days since Rosemarie's death and its been four days since I seen Prince William.

I guess the gesture was mute.

Whatever.

I didn't need him anyway. The thought made me so angry. I never asked for him to come into my perfectly fine life. I didn't want him to. But he did anyway. His beautiful laughing blue eyes sparkled in my mind. His silky straight brown hair, shiny. He was a handsome man.

NO! I shook my head of the thought. He is a royal and I, I'm a peasant girl.

Lowly and poor.

I get up and get dressed.

I decided to go to work today. I had enough crying and feeling sorry for myself. Rosemarie wouldn't like that. She'd want me to live my life and move on. I can't waste my time on pouting. That never got a poor girl anywhere.

I run out of the house and to the bakery. I open the door and John greeted me as another costumer until he looked twice.

"Elena. I didn't expect to see you today." He says.

"I--" I start. "I've got to get on with my life." I blurted. He just looked at me. I felt like a complete idiot.

"I can't keep myself locked up forever. The food will run out and I'll have to come out sometime." I try to laugh. "Besides, I know you missed me."

He smirks, "sure kid. Whatever you think. Are coming back to work?"

"Yeah."

"Good, I left a mess for you. I started making Custer so you have a lot to clean up and the floor has never been this dirty." I just stare at him. He didn't skip a beat. "Well? Come on you haven't got all day! I'm not paying you to stand here looking like a twig. Get to work." He barked and we exchanged a small smile as I got to work.

He didn't treat me like my only friend just died and I silently thank him for it.

By the end of the day I was sweating. I was glad for the wet weather because there weren't many costumers and I know I was stinking up the place.

"I'm finished with my work, John!" I yell he was in the back. I hear a faint, "come here." And walked into the back.

"Here's your payment. Go and get you a decent supper and get some rest you'll be working twice as hard tomorrow."

"Twice as hard?!" My jaw dropped.

"You want a raise, don't you?" He glares and I close my mouth and nod. "Good. So be here bright and early."

I nod and run out.

As I opened to main door I heard a thump and an,"ow."

I gasp and started to stamper a sorry until I seem who it was.

I just slammed the door on Prince William's nose! I groaned out loud. He looked at me funny. I quickly recomposed myself and forced a small curtsy bowing my head. "I am so so sorry, Prince William. Are you okay?!"

"I'm fine it wasn't your fault."

I jerk my head up to look him in the eyes. "What?"
