Song for the chapter: You Can Let Go by Crystal Shawanda

"Mom, I don't want to visit him."
The two were on the train to visit Godric Gryffindor's father with his mother, Katrine Gryffindor, who still carried the name to support him in keeping it.
She sighed." Godric, he misses us-- you." She corrected herself, and that didn't go unnoticed by her son." Plus, he has some gifts for you, so..."
She looked out the window and gazed at the snowy mountain peaks that seemed to touch the sky." You're father can afford to live here?..."
Godric could already see his mother's mood sinking, and he hated seeing his mother down." If only I could provide you with such--"
"Mom, I love you more, I love where we live more, and I love whatever you give me, okay? Dad sucks, you don't, so just chill out!" He said, grabbing his mother's hand. She smiled weakly at her son before caressing his face gently.
"What did I do to deserve you, my sweet boy." She said softly, pulling her son close and hugging him as the train inched closer to their destination."

     "This is it."
The mother-son pair were standing in front of a mansion set in the snowy mountains, wrapped in their coats, dreading to knock on the door. The aroma of a sweet, delicious pumpkin pie tinted the air, and the two approached the big oak doubled doors.
Godric leaned forward and knocked.
"Aurora, get the door!"
"I'm busy with the children!"
"Alright, alright... though if it isn't them I swear I'm going to--"
Vincent Gryffindor, Godric's burly father, appeared in the doorway and apparently stopped his train of thought as he looked at Katrine, then looked at his first son.
"Godric..."
"Dad."
They stood there in silence, Godric hating the man before him, wishing he wouldn't fake his 'sentiment' for him." Well, uh, I guess you should... uh, come in."
The pair walked inside and a wave of warmth took over them as they took of their coats and hung them on the coat hanger, which had labels for each member of the family to hang their coats-- there was Vincent, Aurora, Artemisia, Demetrius, Ignatius, Aryn and... Godric. Disgusted, the young man hung his coat far from the designated rack, next to his mother's, who was trying to hold in a laugh as Vincent frowned.
"Dinner's not yet ready, so take a seat in here." He said, directing the two through an archway that lead to a room with a cozy fireplace and three huge sofas; books on many shelves along with family portraits adorning the walls.
However, had there not be many toys scattered almost everywhere, the room might have actually looked majestic and formal. Two kids sat on the floor, a boy and a girl, playing in the corner with a dozen of toy trains while the older boy and girl sat on the floor, writing on the smooth, stone coffee table, drawing what seemed to be--
"Godric!"
A young blonde, probably in her twenties, came up to Godric and gave him sloppy kisses on both cheeks before pulling him in for a hug. Katrine was disgusted, so Godric wasn't the only one.
"Who are you?" He asked, wiping the saliva off his cheek. He'd prefer the cold, winter outside than the warm, wet kisses of a woman inside.
The woman laughed." I'm Aurora, your moth--"
"Step-mother." Katrine said sharply. Aurora turned to look at her." Yes, yes, of course, but I hope he learns to call the,uh, the both of us, mother."
"Alright then." Katrine said, taking Godric by the arm and sitting down." Tell me, what's so special about you?"
The woman laughed and ushered the children out of the room. After she made sure no one could eavesdrop, she sat down opposite them.
"Everything, if it meant that Vincent decided to leave you. And by that I mean you, not Godric." Footsteps echoed down the hall.
Fury bubbled in his insides. How dare she insult his mother like that? He stood up and glared down at the short woman, who apparently seemed scared of him." Let's get this straight. You are a sissy prick my dad loves, but you don't care about him, just his money. And my mom is so much better than you, and is actually better off without my dad, but she didn't want to hurt your and dad's feelings, so we came."
He advanced upon his stepmother, restraining himself from beating her to a pulp.
"And you aren't and never will be my mother or step-mother. You will forever be an ungrateful little--"
"Godric!" Vincent said, storming in from the archway." You do not talk to Aurora like that. And... and... it's not true... it isn't..." His confidence was faltering, he realised that whatever Godric had said was true-- he turned to face his second wife.
"Is true?" He said in a hushed tone. The woman before him clutched her wand and looked at him fiercely.
"Of course it is! I didn't want the name Gryffindor tainting my family history! But it did! Thank Merlin my sister married the greatest wizarding family-- the Lestranges!"
She advanced upon the three, smiling devilishly." Children! Don't come down!" Vincent thundered, looking at his ex in regret, as if he had been living the life without her as a lie-- which he did.
"And a lovely little girl my nephew has... taught me all about some wonderful spells." She pointed her wand at Katerine." Time to test them out!"
     "Duck!"
The three Gryffindors ducked out of the way and the green light hit the couch, a hole appearing with steam coming out of it.
     "Don't play, Vincent!"
She threw spell after spell, green light after green light, as the three tried to get in a proper position to disarm her." Get out! Get out!" Vincent yelled, and the footsteps of Aryn, Artemisia, Demetrius and Ignatius echoed down the hall. The sound of the front door being opened told those in the room that only the four of them were left in the house.
"Vincent! Just give me the girl, and we'll be better off together!" Aurora screamed, pointing her wand at Godric and smiling wickedly. The kindness had truly dropped out of her, drained until it was replaced with evil and cold.
     "Or the boy dies."
     "Avada..."
The spell they hadn't managed to hear started to slip out, and they were all too afraid to move." Katrine..." Vincent said warily." I love you, and Godric. Remember, the lily."
"... Kedavra!" The green light shot out in Godric's direction. He closed his eyes, falling to the floor, a tear slipping down his cheek, as did one on Katrine's as Aurora fled, cackling away.
The two lay knelt beside the dead man in the destroyed room, reunited for his last moments, words of love never exchanged, gifts never given. Katrine began to sob softly, as Godric placed a hand on his dead father.
     "Dad..."
