"It'll be alright, Helga, Salazar always has a reason... at least, I think he does."
Godric Gryffindor had abandoned his once-cozy hut that he shared with the woman who had turned cold towards the people who needed her the most to comfort his brown-haired friend.
"But Godric, he... he didn't even stop me!" Helga Hufflepuff, kind-hearted individual, sobbed into Godric's muscular shoulder. He patted her on the back affectionately; he didn't know why his best friend was acting so weird... He knew Salazar loved Helga for such a long time, so why now? Why would he just... stop, when they're expecting a baby?
"I'll talk to him, alright? It'll work out in the end." Godric reassured, making sure he left only when she was in the care of their old teacher, Professor Lilac and a steaming cup of tea. The only problem was, it wasn't Professor Lilac.

"Woah, Salazar! What in the name of Merlin's beard happen here?!"
The hut was an absolute mess-- pillows were torn or scratched; dead mice and feathers of what appeared to be owls littered the floor where Sizzy, Salazar Slytherin's snake, lay; a chair was lying on the floor, a broken leg with a sharp end clasped tightly in the green-eyed man's hand, who appeared to be getting ready for... battle?
Salazar Slytherin, the ambitious man that he was, was ready for the attack that would come upon him and his love, whom he was trying to protect.
"D'you have your wand?" he said vaguely, belting the wooden leg round his waist while taking out his wand. He spoke in Parseltongue, and immediately, Sizzy got up and followed Salazar out the door, leaving Godric confused and bewildered inside.
"Well, don't just stand there!" Salazar snapped, annoyed, before running up to the tower where he knew Helga had fled to, Godric in following in his wake.

"He-- mmff!"
Panting and bounded tightly to a chair, Helga Hufflepuff glared at the woman who she had once considered ally. Professor Lilac then, quite horrifyingly un-lady-like sat down in the chair opposite, twirling her wand between her fingers, as if waiting for some company--
"Very good, my dear." A terrifyingly familiar voice purred, sending chills down Helga's spine.
Mariana Slytherin had entered the room, and just like a dementor, she sent a cold feeling to everyone in the room. She held her wand almost gently, as if a woman as cruel as her could even do so, and motioned for Professor Lilac to leave the room, who had Helga's eyes trailing after her, shocked that her Professor neither spoke nor helped her at all.
The look on her face amused Mariana, and she just laughed. It was a shrill laugh, that caused even the baby in Helga's womb to squirm.
It's okay, Helga tried to reassure her child. Daddy'll save us, won't he? He'll have to. Oh Salazar, I shouldn't have left...
"You're probably wondering-- how did I get in to your supposedly-protected school?" Mariana scoffed at the last word, and then turned to look out the window. "You're friend forget that little Apparating spell, didn't she?" Her cold, evil, laugh rang through the air again.
Oh, Salazar, I shouldn't have left...
"I sent my son a letter, saying he must... terminate, the child." Mariana looked at Helga and eyed her baby bump that was already quite large with disgust. But soon, her look of disgust turne to one with absolute glee, as she started to play with her wand, making the things on the desk fly up, then slam down again, to frighten the woman carrying her grandchildren.
"I told him that he had to do it-- never mind how I know, you half-blood -- or I'll do it." She sat in the chair across from Helga and leaned over so she could be face to face with her. "And I would take you to the grave with it."
A muffled gasp escaped Helga's gagged mouth as she squirmed from Mariana's grasp she had on her shoulder. Salazar was trying to save her, by killing the child. Or else they'd both die.
A wave of stupidity hit her-- the child couldn't die, but even if it had, they could've had another one, couldn't they? But something told her that they wouldn't be able to.
"I've learnt a little spell from my sister's nephew... and his lovely friend who had invented it." Mariand pointed the wand at Helga's throat. "I let you have the last word, but I'll always have the last laugh."
She let the cloth loose of Helga's mouth, and instead of saying anything, she spat in Mariana's face. "You pure-bloods are even filthier than us Mudbloods."
Mariana was steaming. "Why you little--"
"Expelliarmus!"
The short wand flew out of her hand into the pale palm of her son, who was followed closely by Godric. "I told you the spell to prevent Apparition within the grounds. Now go!" He yelled, as Mariana grabbed Helga's wand and began duelling with her very own son.
"Defending the girl, are you Salazar? You're father wouldn't have wanted this!" She screeched, casting a spell that narrowly missed Helga. Salazar shot a spell to untie his wife before trying to disarm his mother again.
"You wouldn't know what dad've wanted or not! Aargh!" He had been stunned; Helga quickly got up to join the fight. "Renneverate! Stupefy!" She yelled the curses respectively at the two people before ducking to avoid a green light.
"Like that green! It's a killing curse!" Mariana laughed as the two climbed under the desk to avoid getting hit by the deadly spell. She had gone mad for power and for herself, just like she had done 14 years before...
"It would've been helpful 14 years ago!" She shriekedd as Helga and Salazar tried reaching the door of the circular room, but to no avail; Mariana knew what they were doing. She shot killing curse after killing curse, burning the objects and furniture Helga and Salazar used to shieled themselves black.
14 years ago... Salazar thought. Why would've it been useful 14 years ago?
14 years ago... Salazar last talked to his dad.
14 years ago... Mariana interrupted a conversation between him and his dad.
14 years ago... Mariana said Salazar's dad had died.
14 years ago... She was alone with his dad when he... died.
14 years ago... Mariana killed Salazar's father.
"You killed him!" Salazar yelled, his heart turning cold and black. "You killed Papa!" Mariana looked at her son, shocked-- he had found out. Her control was lost, she couldn't fire the killing spell again.
"Stupefy!" Salazar yelled, but Mariana dodged. "YOU KILLED PAPA!"
Mariana scoffed, failing to hit him with another stunning spell. "He was a fool! He wanted to mix with those not of pure-blood! Stupefy!"She and Salazar expertly dodged and fired the stunning spell, until Salazar decided he had enough.
"YOU KILLED PAPA!" He said again, raising his wand as he cornered Mariana. "AND THEREFORE I KILL YOU. Avada--"
"Stop!"
Salazar's icy heart melted back to the one he truly was-- only Helga could control his darkness, his sanity.
He looked into Helga's loving, amber eyes... that's it, calm down... remove of the darkness he had inherited from his mother... you can't kill your own mother Salazar... calm down... focus on Helga...
"Expelliarmus!"
Mariana regained her wand and dropped the other two. She glared at her son.
"You will regret disobeying me."
And with one final crack before Godric enclosed the area so that Apparation could not take place, she disappeared, leaving the two closer than ever before.
"Salazar, I realise--" Helga started, but Salazar dismissed her. He looked into her eyes, and she could see the darkness again...
"Salazar?"
He sighed, and walked over the debris and kissed her, kissed her like never before and felt the fire only she could bring rush through him. The fire was rekindled; he never wanted to break apart from the person he knew could save him from this darkness, who could bring him happiness like no other.
But he had to pull away, to protect her, to protect everything he loved. He had to do what his mother needed him to do, in case she came bacj again.
"I love you," Helga whispered between kisses.
"I love you, Helga. So goddammed much."
