Song for the chapter: Nobody Like You by Little Mix

~

Salazar Slytherin was a handsome man. He had the looks that could make any girl stop and stare for a good amount time. He could make them falter under his piercing green eyes, and he could make anyone run at the sound of a language only his family knew of, but couldn't speak.
Salazar Slytherin was a powerful Parselmouth, who just wanted to educate young witches and wizards in Europe on magic; he never wanted to impose harm onto anyone, no matter how harsh he may sound or intimidating he may seem.

Helga Hufflepuff was something of a rare beauty. With her rare amber-yellow eyes and her seemingly flawless white skin, she would make people stop and stare, but subtly only.
She was humble, and kind, almost like a real-life princess, like her best friend. She never boasted, she seldom lied and she rarely disobeyed.
She often loved with all her heart, and even more when it came to the man who was almost her complete opposite and yet shared the same dream; to educate.
So with their two other friends, they had a mission to set up the best wizarding school in the world.
     Except, their relationship had faltered.

"Are you alright?"
For some reason, the two had used formality when addressing each other after what happened. It was as if they didn't know how to communicate casually to each other anymore, like all the love had become... something else entirely.
Because it hurt.
It hurt to say I don't love you anymore, when you so desperately know you do and need that person to keep yourself alive.
It hurt to say I need to go away when it means breaking every single block you have carefully placed down on your way to the top.
It hurt to say goodbye.
Love hurts, and as Salazar asked that question the day he lost everything, his heart broke into two pieces that could never be mended back together.
"Yes," Helga replied, massaging her belly tenderly. Six months and going, that attack had took a toll on her so much that she had difficulty moving around as much. But then again, her stomach was somehow larger than they had anticipated.
"Oh, that's, that's good." Salazar said. His eyes looked down at the suddenly interesting floor. He had to this. Deep down, he knew it was safer.
"Helga I--"
"Salazar don't."
Almost immediately, her eyes filled up with tears at the sound of her name escaping his mouth. "We are going to fight again, and I don't want that. I don't need another argument, and I don't want you to leave. All I want is you."
He tried swallowing, but he couldn't. He was breaking her, and breaking himself.
"But that's the thing," his voice broke. "I need to leave."
Her breath hitched and her heart beat quickened; she knew it.
For years, she had been looking for an escape, a way to make a safe bubble where the two of them could thrive in peace without anyone getting in the way or trying to break them apart. Was it not possible, for true love to ever make its way back to her again? For Helga Hufflepuff would always love Salazar, and she was certain that she would never find love without him.
"Salazar," Helga sighed; does she really want to fight a losing battle?
As Salazar headed towards the door, he waited, he listened. He wanted to here the constant plea to stay, to keep fighting so that he had an excuse to disobey everything his mother believed in.
     But there came none.
"Goodbye, Salazar. I will always love you." Helga said quietly.
Salazar exited the hut, taking with him the happiness they used to have.
