'I want a divorce.'
It was the four words she least expected to hear when she woke up that morning; sure they'd been having issues but nothing that she wasn't willing to fight for, obviously Wilmer doesn't feel the same. She's sitting on the edge of the bed with tears streaming down her cheeks as she reaches for her phone. Glancing down at the phone she sighs as the picture of her and Wilmer on their wedding day flashes up.
'Argh!' She screams throwing the phone at the wall and watching as the screen shatters. It's been a week; seven days since he packed his bags leaving her sobbing on the bed. Hearing the door downstairs open she instantly stands and makes her way over to the bedroom door; he must have changed his mind!
'Wilmer?' She says making her way out onto the landing.
'It's just me.' A voice replies and she glances downstairs to see Nick standing at the bottom.
'Oh...' She whispers. She turns so her back is to him and closes her eyes as tears stream down her cheeks.
'We had a meeting this morning and you didn't turn up; we've been worried about you.' He says.
'I'm sorry.' She replies and he shakes his head.
'You don't have to apologise I just wanted to make sure everything was okay.' He says.
'I don't think anything will be okay for a long time.' She replies quietly.
'What's happened?' He asks.
'Wilmer wants a divorce.' She replies wiping her eyes.
'W-What? Why?' He asks instantly moving up the stairs. Shrugging her shoulders she makes her way into the bedroom causing him to follow her. He takes in the numerous photo frames all shattered on the floor.
'When did this happened?' He asks as she climbs onto the bed.
'Last week.' She replies. He watches as she pulls her knees up to her chest and rests her chin on them.
'Why didn't you phone? Why are you alone?' He asks sitting on the edge of the bed.
'I've not told anyone... I just- I thought he'd change his mind.' She admits.
'Oh, Demi...' He says moving closer to her. He drapes his arm over her shoulders causing her to instantly lean into him.
'I thought he loved me.' She almost whispers.
_____
'When was the last time you had something decent to eat?' Nick asks glancing around the bedroom.
'Don't have much in.' Demi replies shrugging her shoulders.
'You need to eat, Dems. Don't let this ruin everything you've worked so hard for over the years.' He says.
'I couldn't go out the house looking like this.' She replies gesturing to her tear stained face.
'Why don't I order in or get Joe to bring something over, we don't have to tell him anything?' He suggests and she nods her head.
'People need to find out at some point.' She replies quietly.
'I'll clean this glass up and then phone him, okay?' He says and she nods her head.
'I'm sorry I missed the meeting.' She says causing him to shake his head.
'Don't even worry about it.' He replies.
'I feel so bad. Everyone must think I'm so unprofessional.' She says and he pulls her even closer to him.
'Everyone will understand, Dems. I'd be a bit concerned if you just carried on as if nothing had happened.' He replies.
'I smashed my phone.' She admits gesturing to where it's still lying on the floor.
'When did you do that?' He asks.
'Just before you got here.' She replies.
'It's easy enough to replace.' He says softly.
______
Glancing down at the food on her plate she sighs as a wave of nausea comes over her. Pushing the plate to the side she shakes her head and instantly rushes to the bathroom to empty the entire contents of her stomach, which isn't much as she hasn't ate since yesterday.
'Should I go check on her?' Joe asks glancing at Nick.
'I'll go.' Sophie replies standing up; Joe and Sophie arrived just over ten minutes ago bringing pizza and chips with them. Nick filled his brother in on the situation while they were putting the dinner out and Demi briefly told Sophie.
'You okay?' Sophie asks making her way into the bathroom. She watches Demi lean back against the wall and shake her head.
'I'm so sorry you have to go through this.' Sophie says causing Demi to sigh. Leaning over she pulls a little white stick out of the cupboard under the sink and hands it to Sophie.
'I found out the morning he told me he wanted a divorce.' Demi says.
