So whilst writing this I found myself quite invested in this little family & their backstory to the point where I may or may not have written more. I would really love to be able to develop the original character’s personality a little bit more & would love you opinions on whether or not you’d eventually like this to be a full story. I really hope you like it.
Mount Sinai Hospital
Manhattan, New York.
Tears stream down her cheeks as she once again sits in a hospital bed, the thin blankets covering her lower body as the sound of rain drops hitting the window fills the room. Yesterday marked exactly five years since it happened; five years since the overdose which made her completely change her life. The room door slowly opens causing her to glance up as her fiancé makes his way into the room with a small smile on his face.
‘You’re awake.’ He says as she reaches up to wipe the tears from her cheeks.
‘Mmm…’ She replies quietly.
‘You okay? What’s the matter?’ He asks making his way over to the bed and placing the item in his hand on the table beside her bed.
‘Nothing; I’m okay, I promise. I was just thinking about how incredibly lucky I am to be alive, to even be here today.’ She admits as he sits down on the edge of the bed and rests his hand on her thigh.
‘You have fought to be here, Demi. You should be so proud of everything you have been able to achieve, all the hard work you’ve put into your recovery.’ He says.
‘Mmm… I love you.’ She says quietly.
‘I love you too… Now these were left at the front desk for you.’ He explains gesturing to the large bunch of white daisies he placed on the table when he made his way over to the bed. He grabs the card out of the bouquet and passes it to her causing her to smile.
‘They’re so pretty.’ She replies smiling as she begins to read the card.
‘Demi,
Congratulations! Words cannot describe how happy Portia and I are for you and Josh. You have been on one hell of a journey these past few years and to finally see you happy, finally settled and content with your life is everything everyone has ever wanted for you. We can’t wait to come meet your sweet little bundle.
Love Ellen & Portia xx’
Smiling, she places the card on her knees and glances over at the newborn sleeping peacefully in the little clear plastic cot by her bed. Yesterday, exactly five years since her overdose, Olivia Blossom Nisbet was born at 2:43am after a thirty-seven hour labour. She weighed a small but healthy 5lbs 9oz and is absolutely perfect in every way.
‘So a little birdie told me that I might get to bring my girls home today.’ Josh says softly and she nods her head.
‘Mhmm… Lulu and I got given the all clear to come home so we’re just waiting to sign our discharge papers and then we’re free.’ Demi replies smiling.
‘How are you feeling about going home?’ He asks.
‘Honestly? A little bit scared but so looking forward to being in my own bed.’ She admits and he nods his head.
‘This is what we’ve spent the past eight months preparing for, babe. We get to bring our baby girl home.’ He says causing her to smile.
‘Mmm… I was thinking once we get home we could maybe let the world know she’s here and she’s healthy.’ She suggests and he nods his head.
‘Sounds like a perfect idea to me.’ He replies.

‘You okay?’ Josh asks as he glances over at Demi who is sitting on the sofa cradling Olivia in her arms; they arrived home a little over an hour ago and have just been adjusting to life as a family of three.
‘I was sitting at like 3 this morning just looking at her and I was just thinking about everything we’ve been through to get here, to get her… Looking at her I just know I would’ve waited forever just to meet her.’ She replies and he nods his head. They’ve been together for a little over four years now and from the moment she met him, she just knew that Josh was the one she had been waiting for. They almost instantly became inseparable and two years ago made the decision to begin trying for a baby.
‘We’ve been through a lot to get this little one, haven’t we?’ He says making his way over to her and sitting down beside her. After six months of trying for a baby and getting nothing but negative tests, they decided to see a private fertility specialist which resulted in six months of invasive tests before eventually getting a recommendation of IVF. It took three rounds of IVF and one heartbreaking miscarriage for them to finally get their little rainbow baby, their little Lulu.
‘It was worth it though, wasn’t it?’ She says softly and he nods his head.
‘Definitely. Don’t get me wrong I hated seeing you go through all that and honestly if we could get the end result without having to go through all the heartache then I would prefer that but she’s here, she’s perfect and you are both healthy.’ He replies kissing the top of her head.****
ddlovato: On the night you were born the moon the moon smiled with such wonder that the stars peeked in to see you and the night wind whispered ‘life will never be the same’
