Just a heads up, this chapter involves strong language during Levi's dream. It is not nesicary to read, but it gives backstory, so if you're ok with the language, I suggest you keep reading.
Y/N pov
*dream*
I wake up to feel my arm still hurting from cutting those letters into it last night, but I don't regret doing it. The light shines in through my window in my room and I walk down the hall to greet my parents. Mom should have breakfast done by now. When I get to the living room, I see a sight I wish I'd never seen. I don't think I'll ever be able to unsee it. My parents both lay dead on the floor. Multiple stab wounds and blood pooling around them.I do the only thing that I can think of doing. I run as fast as I can. I run into the underground and into Levi's house without knocking. This is the only place I know I can go to get comfort. I search the house with tears streaming down my face.
"Levi!" No response. "Isabelle?" Still nothing. "Farland?" I'm still met with only silence. I run into Levi's room and lay on his bed holding his pillow tight to my chest balling for hours.
I don't know how long I stayed in that position, but I know it was quite a while.
I finally decided to search for Levi. I put on his old jacket that I often borrow from him and walk outside.
I walked around for hours stopping every once in a while to ask the owners of stalls if they had seen the bandits today. Each time, I was met with the same response. "Haven't seen those assholes since yesterday. I hope I never see them again."
After a while, I decide to head back to the house, but I take a different path using the same method I had used. Ask all the shop keepers the same question. Eventually I got a different answer. "I saw them earlier today. They were being chased earlier. I saw two of them get caught, but I don't know what happened to the third. You know, the one with the raven black hair and cold, grey eyes. He was putting up a fight. I don't know what happened in the end. I really had to pee so I missed it. Why is it that you want to know girl?" The fat shopkeeper told me.
"I want to avenge my mother's death. I have reason to believe they killed her, so I want them to meet the same fate my mother did." I said while pulling out a knife I had stashed in the coat pocket. It's what Levi told me to do if I ever had to find them while they weren't at the house and I was questioned.
The man gave me a horrified look as I ran back to the house. Maybe Levi escaped and went there. He's probably waiting for me to show up just about now so we can bail them out. Nobody can capture my Levi. He's stronger than everyone on the planet, and he promised he'd stay with me. He has to be at the house. We must have just passed eachother.
But my hoping was all in vain. When I arrived, the house was still empty. Not being able to bring myself to leave and go back to the place I called home for my entire life, I decided to stay here. So I lived in the underground for 7 years, searching every day for my dearest friends. Even when I moved back to the surface, I searched. I did everything I could to find them. I went every place I could think of that they may go. I even searched above ground just in case they happened to escape.
It was all in vain. And I knew it. They were probably all dead and those were my last thoughts every night as I cried myself to sleep.
Levi pov
After a while of swapping out the rags, I decided that I needed to get some rest too. I took off my sweaty shirt and climbed into bed next to her a fell asleep.
*dream*
After I was allowed to leave the HQ, the first place I went was Y/N's house. She must have realized by now that I was gone. In fact, she probably found out the day I went missing.
When I got to her house, the area was blocked off and there were MPs everywhere.
"What happened here?!" I asked one of the MPs.
"Murder. Two adults murdered in cold blood. They appear to have been dead for a while by the looks of it. We just found the corpses today when a realitive came to visit."
"What about the girl?"
"I'm sorry. I'm not supposed to release any information. I've probably said too much already."
"WHERE IS THE GIRL?!"
"Sir, as I said, I can't say anything."
"Listen here fucker. You have one more chance to tell me where the FUCKING GIRL is, before I shove this fucking sword up your ass and chop off your small ass d-"
"No please don't do that. I'm very sorry. I didn't realize your were a family member. We have yet to locate the girl. We assume that whomever murdered her parents were after the girl and probably kidnapped her. I'm very sorry sir, but we don't have anything to go on. I'll try to contact you if we do find her."
"No. You will contact me. You will find her. If you fail to do so, I will fucking murder you very slowly. Got it brat?"
"Yes sir. I will find the girl. How am I able to reach you when I contact you?"
"Send it to Captain Erwin Smith of the Survey Corps. He is my commanding officer. I expect to have him hand me that letter very soon. Understood?"
"Understood sir!"
After that encounter, I continued to search the streets. Asking shopkeepers if they had seen her recently. Each one knew of her, but hadn't seen her in weeks. They were growing concerned. Apparently Y/N was a very popular girl up here. Everyone loved her. I don't understand why she came down to the underground in the first place.
Every time I was able to get time off, I came to her house and searched the streets. I even went door to door asking. After a couple years, I couldn't continue asking people if they'd seen a little girl. Instead, I'd have to search the faces in the crowd hoping to find one that resembled the girl I knew. The shopkeepers knew me by name. Some of them were searching for her too. But none of them were searching as much as I was. Nobody cared as much as me. After 3 years, I received a letter from the MP I had met so many years ago. The case was closed. They gave up and declared her dead. He told me to stop looking. He told me it was pointless. There's no way she was alive.
I knew my searching was in vain. She was probably kidnapped and sold to some perverted noble. Maybe she was murdered. There were endless possibilities that came to mind every time I thought of it. Every night, I'd fall asleep with tears streaming down my face, knowing that she was long gone. I had broken my promsie. I said we'd be together forever and always. Yet I left her behind. I let her down. I let all three of them down. I'll have to live with that fact for the rest of my life.
