Y/N pov
How does Hange know what Levi is talking about? And a time line? That woman is insane, but I guess Levi understood her and somehow she's right. I'm really excited to find out what all of this is about. As I'm eating dinner, I'm holding Levi's hand under the table, just like I did at lunch. The storm is still here and there's lots of thunder.
*flashback 13 years*
The four of us are out stealing food. Unfortunately, I'm not as skilled or as fast as them and I don't really know my way around the underground very well. I've been coming here every day for two years, but Levi only just recently let me help them out.
At the moment, I'm cornered in an alleyway. I long ago dropped the bread I stole, and now all I can do is fear for my life.
"You little street rat! You can't just steal. All of us are hungry down here and there isn't enough food to go around. If you want food that badly, look in the garbage. I'm sure you'll find something you can eat you little rat. Now it's time for you to pay. I can't just let you go. You'll come back. You picked the wrong man to mess with. Unlike others, I'm not afraid to do this!" The fat man said pulling a gun out of somewhere. He points the gun at me and loads it. "Now any last words rat?"
"Levi." I whisper. I'm to scared to use my voice. It's hard enough to whisper. There's nothing I can do. This is the end. I wish I told him how I felt. I may be young, but I'm sure these feelings are real. I close my eyes and wait for him to shoot me.
*bang*
I hear a scream, but I felt nothing. Is this what death feels like? You skip the pain and just die? All I see is black. It's warm.
I open my eyes expecting the gates of hell to open up to me. I know I'm not a good person. I steal and lie and cheat. No pearly gates for me. Instead of seeing the flames of hell, I see something worse. There on the ground is the body of the man who had a gun pointed at me seconds ago. He was covered in blood, no longer breathing. A sword stuck out of back. Standing in front of him hunched over is Levi. He's clutching his chest. He turns around and walks to me. His normally spotless shirt is covered in blood. His blood.
"Are you ok Y/N?"
"Yes. Thanks to you. You need to get back. You're losing lots of blood."
"Don't worry about me. I'm fi-" he falls to the ground.
I check for a pulse, and it is in fact still there. Good. Very good. Now I really need to get him back to the house so I can clean him up.
At that moment, as if they read my thoughts. Isabelle and Farland show up. They don't question a thing. Instead, they pick him up and we run to the house.
I put down some old blankets on the floor and they put him down on it. I hurry to remove his shirt and get started. I've never had to do an operation like this, but I'm confident I can pull it off. I have all the tools and I've seen my father do this a million times. I locate the bullet and carefully remove it. I disinfect the area and stich it up. All I can do now is pray. Thank goodness he wasn't conscious for that.
We move him onto his bed and I spend the rest of the night watching over him. My parents are both gone at the moment, so I'm spending the weekend here. After a couple days, Levi is awake. He's in pain, but he'll survive.
"Don't ever do that again Levi. I was so scared. I couldn't stand the thought of losing you. Thank you for coming to my rescue, but you shouldn't be so reckless."
"Y/N, you need to understand something. If I could do it over, I wouldn't change a thing. Your life will always be above mine. I knew I'd be ok. I have you after all. You're what keeps me going. I'll never leave you behind, and I'll never let you go. So don't cry. Everything is alright. I promise you I'll never leave you."
*flashback end*
Since then, every time I hear thunder, I remember that gunshot. I remember how close he was to dying. I remember performing my first surgery while tears streamed down my face. I remember sitting by his bedside praying that he would wake up. Praying he would forgive me. I remember his promise. That's why I fear thunder. I never want to have to have that happen again. Never again.
Thunder strikes and I unintentionally squeeze Levi's and. He squeezes back and I know that everything will be ok. He won't leave me, and I won't leave him. We'll be together forever and always.
For the first time in a while, I voluntarily ate all of my food. It's something I do when I panic. I eat all I can.
"You gonna finish that?" I ask Sasha.
"Ok Y/N. Let's go." Levi says standing up and pulling me with him.
"But I'm still hungry!" I say pulling out of his grasp and walking back to the table. "You want me to eat anyways."
"Y/N, are you pregnant?" Hange asks.
"What?!" Levi and I say at the same time.
"No! Why would I be pregnant?!"
"Well you've been sick for what, a week? And you ate all your food, so it's not a crazy thing to ask." Sasha said.
"That's insane. I assure you, I am not pregnant."
"You sure???" Hange asked.
"Yep. Absolutely positive."
"Positive?"
I just glared at Hange.
"Ohh. I see." Hange said.
"Wait what?" Sasha asked.
"Y/N's not pregnant." Hange said plainly.
"You changed your mind fast. Not like I care though." Levi said.
"So how do you know?"
"Come on Levi. They're annoying." I said pulling Levi by the hand.
The two girls continued talking, ignoring the fact we left.
