Chapter 49

Scott pov

We leave the death pit and start heading to the mess hall.

"Scott." Hange says.

I look at her and she smacks the top of my head.

"Owwwwwww. What the heck?!"

"Thank you."

"What?"

"You we're being too quiet. Even when I said your name, you didn't say anything. I had to make you say something and that's the first thing that came to mind. I'm sorry if that hurt. I didn't mean to hurt you."

"No. I'm fine."

"What are you thinking about that's keeping you so quiet? You usually talk a lot. You're acting like Selena all of a sudden. What's wrong?"

"I hear you, you know. I may not talk, but I listen." Selena says from behind us.

"Sorry Selena. Didn't mean to offend you or anything."

"No need to appologize. You aren't wrong."

"Anyways. Scott. What's gotten in to you? What's going through your head?"

"You." I said simply.

"Me? What about me?"

"You almost died and you're not phased or anything."

"That's because it happens all the time. It's really nothing. I wasn't gonna die."

We open the door to the mess hall and head to the table.

"If it happens all the time, why are you doing it?"

"It's my job."

"That's stupid. You shouldn't put yourself in danger like that."

"I'm not in danger. Besides. I enjoy examining titans. It's not just a job. It's fun too."

"Hange. Do you ever think about what would happen if you weren't paying attention one day and you died because of one of those things?"

"No. I don't think about it because it won't happen. I'm very careful."

"You can be careful and still die. I'm sure all of the scouts are careful on expeditions, yet lots die anyways."

"You're right, but still. I'm gonna be fine."

"I had to push you out of the way! What would've happened if I didn't do that? You weren't paying attention. Do you understand how serious that could've been?"

"What's goin on guys?" Sasha asked as we reached the table.

"Scott's overreacting." Selena told her.

"I'm not overreacting! Why don't you guys get it? Death is a thing. Nobody is immortal. Those, THINGS, can kill you easily. Especially when you get that close. I mean, they're chained up for a reason. They kill people. It's what they do. You said it yourself today. Why would you get so close to it?"

"She does it all the time. No need to overreact brat." Levi said sitting down at the table.

"Not you too Captain. Don't you ever worry about her?"

"I couldn't care less. If she wants to be eaten by a titan, so be it."

"Are you kidding me? Come on. Y/N. You're with me on this, right?"

"I have no clue what you're talking about." She replies.

"Damn it. Sasha? You with me?"

"Yeah. I guess."

"Thank you! Titans aren't pets. Just like bears. But titans are worse. You can't get so close to them. You'll die!"

"Seriously. Calm down. I just got here and you're giving me a headache. She's been doing it for years. How do you know how close she gets? How do you even know about that place?" Levi said.

"We just got back from there." Selena said.

"Got back from where?" Y/N asked.

"Do you really not know about that place? You've been here longer than we have. Shouldn't you know more than us?"

"She has no clue what you're talking about and neither should you two. Why did you go there?"

"I took them there so they could see what titans look like before they go on the expedition." Hange said.

"I specifically told those brats to not let cadets in. Who let them in? They're gonna get it."

"I ordered him to let us through. He put up a fight, but in the end, I am your superior so I won, you lost."

"You are NOT my superior. We're the same rank. If anything, I'd be your superior. I've been using the gear and I've been fighting my whole life. Therefore, my orders surpass yours."

"You see, the thing about that is, I've been here longer. The 'guards' don't know about your past. Nobody really knows. What they do know is that I've been here longer. So I'm superior. That's how we got in. I'm cooler than you shorty."

"You're not superior. Or cooler. You're not cool in the slightest. Not saying that I'm cool, but I'm better than you are least. I'm gonna have to go talk to those brats tomorrow. They need to know who's the boss here."

"And what are you gonna do? Tell them you've been here longer? Cuz that's a lie. I guess you could tell them your past, but you won't do that. Only ones that know about your past are Erwin and shorty number two."

"Why do you call me that? I'm not that short Hange." Y/N says. I guess she's shorty number two then. Odd nickname.

"Well Levi is short, so he's shorty. You're shorter than him, just like him, and you two are a thing, so you're shorty number two."

"I'm not short shitty glasses." Levi states.

"Don't call her that!" Sasha says with her mouth filled with food.

"Shut up potato." Levi says.

"Potato? That's the nickname I get? Really?"

"Can we stop fighting and just eat now please? That or you can explain why Scott was freaking out about Hange dying and stuff." Y/N said.

"I guess we're shutting up now." Levi says and starts eating.

The rest of dinner is silent. I'm still upset with Hange. Can't believe she would do something so dumb. And Levi says she does it all the time. My gosh. Why doesn't anyone stop her? Doing they care? And why is Y/N so clueless? Levi appears to not want her to know about it. Why? Everyone else knows, so why can't she? Levi is an odd guy.

So, my bad for the lack of updates. I've been busy. Like really busy. Hopefully everything will go back to normal soon. I think I don't have any test scheduled. I'll be in the hospital from 9/11-9/18 (maybe longer depending on how the surgery goes) but I'll try to update while I'm there. No guarantees though. After I leave, I might have some rehab stuff, but again I don't see why I wouldn't be able to update. Sorry for spewing all my personal crap here, but I figured I'd just let you guys know why the updates are so random. Anyways, tell me how I'm doing please cuz I honestly have no clue if this is good or bad. Ima go now cuz it's late here and for whatever reason, I decide this is the only time that I can update. I'm a moron. Hope you're enjoying!
