Chapter 42

Hange pov

I went to Comander Erwins office after putting Scott and Selena in their cells after lunch.

"Hey commander?"

"What is it Hange?"

"I was thinking. Scott and Selena aren't really opposed to being downstairs, but I feel if they are to become scouts that they shouldn't be down there."

"We aren't sure yet if they can be trusted Hange. They can't be alone roaming free."

"They won't be alone. I'll be with them. I just find it cruel that they're down there all day and night. I'll be with them 24/7."

"24/7? I'd agree to that if Scott wasn't a boy you know."

"Oh come on. Y/N and Levi are in the same room. What's so wrong about Scott being with me?"

"The only reason they're in the same room is because Levi is guarding her."

"Well technically I'd be guarding her too by watching them."

"It's different."

"How so?"

"It just is. Besides. You shouldn't be sharing a bed with them."

"I won't. I have a couch in my room I'll sleep on. Come on. It's not fair to keep them down there. We both know they're good people."

"I know they're good people, but I'm just not sure I can allow this."

"Please? Besides. If they're going to be scouts, they should train with the 3DMG. The expedition is the day after tomorrow. They're very skilled. Leaving them here would be a waste, but we can't just have them go in blindly. Let me train them. If anything goes wrong, which it won't, ill take full responsibility for it. Please Comander. I promise everything will be fine."

"Fine. But if anything happens, I'm turning them over to Levi. We both know that won't end well. Now I need to get to work and you need to start training them. If they aren't prepared by Saturday, they'll go back in the cells until we return. Levi and Y/N can bring them food, but I can't guarantee their safety if Y/N gets poisoned again while we're gone."

"That won't be a problem. I'll have them ready to go by Saturday. Promise! Bye Comander!" 

I quickly ran out of his office and headed to the cells.

"Aww. You already miss me! How sweet." Scott says as Sinn as I get downstairs.

"You bet. Missed you so much, I got you both out of your cells. Now come on. I have to have you prepared by the day after tomorrow so we should get to work."

"What?"

"There's an expedition Saturday and you're coming with if I can get you ready. If I can't, you'll be stuck here with shorty and Y/N. So I suggest we move out!" I say unlocking the cells.

"Who's training us?"

"Me of course. You're on my squad after all."

"Who's the squad leader? Will he be ok with us joining?" Selena asked

"I'm your squad leader and I'm thrilled to have you."

"You? A squad leader?" Scott asked.

"Well yeah. I'm the best squad leader that ever lead. Now come on." I said walking up the stairs with them following.

"But you're so nice."

"What's that got to do with anything? Not all squad leaders are jerks like Levi. He's always been an ass, but since the day he found out Y/N was here, he got all overprotective and stuff. And then when she got poisoned the first time, he wouldn't let her out of his sight. It's kinda cute actually. I've never had someone care about me like that."

We walked down the many corridors and finally made it to the training grounds for the 3DMG.

"Ok. So you know how to put it on already. Erwin showed you that. Now let's see how you can use it."

Levi pov

"What the hell?"

"What's wrong Levi?" Y/N said from behind me. "Why are you standing up there?"

I'm currently standing on the bed frame looking out the small window.

"Window blew open. I came up here to close it, but I see something interesting."

"More boxes?"

"No. Hange and those brats are out there."

"I thought they were in the cells."

"Me too. I guess they're not anymore."

Y/N climbs up next too me and looks out the window.

"They're training?"

"Looks like it."

"Why?"

"My guess is Hange convinced Erwin that they need to go on the expedition and she should train them. She probably just doesn't want them locked up anymore."

"They look like they're getting the hang of it. Do you think they have enough time to get prepared though?"

"Nope. They're picking it up fast, but no way they can master it by Saturday. That only gives them a day and a half."

"That's too bad."

"Eh. Not that bad."

"What are they gonna do if they don't master it?"

"They'll probably stay in the cells and we'll have to take care of them."

"Oh. Right. We're not going. I understand why I'm not going, but why do you have to stay?"

"I'm here to protect you. That man is still on the loose and I don't trust those two. If they got loose somehow and hurt you, I don't know what I would do."

"They won't hurt me."

"You're too trusting."

"And you're not trusting enough."

"Maybe."

We watch them for another minute and then get back down. I sit in my chair and start reading.

"Can we leave? I want to take a walk. Not that it's boring being with you, it's just I haven't trained or had any exercise in a while and it's killing me."

"We can't leave. I know you want to and I do too, but we can't. Orders from Erwin."

"He's a buzzkill." She muttered.

"Yep. It looks so nice outside. Fall is here and I'd love to take a walk with you."

"It's too bad. Oh well. I guess Erwin is just trying to protect me and all, but he's locked his best soldier away and forcing him to stay here while they leave the walls. I'm sorry Levi. If I hadn't come here, your life would be normal still. I seem to have caused more bad than good since I sit here. I didn't intend on that. I'm just a burden. I'm so sorry."

I huh her tight as tears begin to stream down her face.

"You aren't a burden. Without you here, life would be the same hell it was. You brought more good here than you think. You're the most important person in my life. You always have been. I spent my days here in agony before you got here. Without you here, my life was pointless. I care about you more than anything. And I'm not the only one. You've got Hange and Sasha and dare I say it Eren and Jean. And you've got Armin too. Even more. So don't you dare say things like that. I love you Y/N. More than you know."

"I love you too Levi. I'll love you forever and always."
