Bree's POV
"Ryder, I won't tell you again to get your filthy hands off my chocolate chip muffins!"
The sound of Lauren's wooden spoon colliding with the back of Ryder's hand, sounds through the room. I watch in amusement, letting out a wild laugh as he recoils his hand back in pain, rubbing it soothingly. This was like the sixth time Ryder had tried and failed to take Lauren's muffins off the cooling rack.
"Why're you making muffins anyway?" I ask her curiously.
"My niece is coming which makes me happy. I always bake chocolate chip muffins when I'm happy." Lauren explains to me, pulling out more baking ingredients to already start on a new batch.
I scoff and fold my arms. Saturday night had come sooner than I expected. "Oh is that today?" I ask, feigning innocence in my voice.
Ryder rolls his eyes playfully, wrapping his arm around my waist and drawing me closer. "Bree is super excited about it, aren't you baby?"
I exchange glances with Ryder as he looks at me expectingly. I paint a smile on my face. "Absolutely."
The doorbell rings throughout the house.
"I'll get it." I announce as I detach myself from Ryder and make my way to the front entrance of the house. I open the front door and frown when I see Carson stood there, backpack slung casually over his shoulder.
"Happy to see me?" He asks, his usual smirk on show.
"As happy as a root canal." I fire back, sending him a condescending smile.
He hums quietly. "Cute."
I open the door wider to allow Carson inside. "Ryder's just in the kitchen, I'll show you."
"Thanks." He tells me, trailing behind me as I give him a brief tour of the rooms we pass.

"How come they got your ugly ass to answer the door?"
It was later in the day and here I was, snarling at Florence on the other side of the door. I quickly made a mental note to myself that after coming face to face with Carson and now Florence that I was to never answer the door again. "I wouldn't have if I knew a she-devil would be on the other side of it."
We exchange glares in an awkward silence, seconds which felt like minutes passing before any of us chose to speak. I took in her strategically scantily clad outfit and makeup. She had no doubt caked on far too much which instead of hiding her imperfections, showed them off. I sighed slowly. "I guess I'll have to invite you in, since you're a vampire and whatnot."
She blatantly grimaced at me, choosing not to verbally retort to my insult, as she steps into the threshold of my uncle's house. We begin walking down the corridor, the awkward silence once again returning.
This time, she decides to fill it.
"So Bree, what's it like being a whore?"
"I-"
Before I had any time to answer, our eyes catch onto both Ryder and Carson as they appear in our line of vision down the hallway. We watch as they're ushered out the kitchen by Lauren and into the dining room, so in their own world, they hadn't even noticed us. Yes Carson was still here all these hours later. I had hoped he would of felt that he'd overstayed his welcome but clearly Carson Daniels doesn't recognise when it was time to leave.
A delighted gasp leaves Florence's lips. "Ooh, this is perfect. Not only do I get Ryder, but Carson too."
I trail after her in annoyance, as she giddily struts into the dining room.
I quickly notice Ryder and take a protective seat next to him sending Florence a glare as she decides on the seat opposite me, which was also next to Carson.
"So Florence..." I taunt, clearing my throat. "If you're here, then who's running hell?"
She sends me a tight smile as Ryder and Carson clear their throats to stifle their laughs.
Both Ricky and Lauren suddenly appear, taking their seats around the table. Lauren looks at us excitedly. "Dig in guys. I hope you all enjoy."
We all begin placing food onto our plates when Ricky clears his throat to speak, garnering our attention. "So, all four of you attend school together?"
Unfortunately.
"Yeah, that's right." Florence smiles politely at my uncle before grinning devilishly at me.
"Bree, can you pass me the bread?" My uncle asks.
I pry my eyes off of Florence and lean over to grab the basket of bread rolls. As I stand to reach them, I accidentally knock the edge of the table. "Florence, watch out!" I yelled in warning as a jug filled with uncle Richard's cranberry juice tilts over.
It was too late however, there was no time to react as the jug falls onto the table, the liquid spilling onto Florence's lap.
"Florence, I'm so-"
Florence gasps shooting out of her seat in anger as the cranberry juice ran down her dress. Even though it had happened merely seconds ago, I could the juice was already staining. "Bree, you bitch!"
"Don't talk to her like that." Ryder fires back almost instantly.
"I'm the one she tried to sabotage yet I'm the one getting shouted at?" Florence yells in disbelief, stomping her foot on the floor.
Carson frowns. "Oh come on Florence, it was clearly an accident." He tries to reason with her as he presses napkins against the wet patches on the table.
"Shut up Carson, of course you'd defend her."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Carson asks, almost irritated, his eyes meeting hers. They both stared off as it they were challenging each other.
Carson nods smugly in satisfaction as Florence backs down. "Whatever." She grumbles.
I watched as Lauren's eyes filled with sadness as she ushers Florence into the kitchen. "Honey come on it's fine, let's get this cleaned up, shall we?"
Florence stomps her foot in anger before marching into the kitchen, Lauren following in tow.
Once I know they're out of earshot, I turn to the guys. "Quick, let's disinfect everything that she's touched."
"Bree..." Uncle Richard warns sternly.
"Alright, fine." I sigh in defeat, complying with his warning and taking my seat once again.
