Bree's POV
"I'm never drinking again."
Ryder grumbles to Lauren and I as he treks into the kitchen, his voice raspier than usual. I watched in amusement as he slowly falls into the seat next to me at the kitchen island. Hangovers' a bitch, I told myself as I noticed his paler than usual skin, dark circles and dishevelled hair.
"My poor baby." I coo sarcastically, softly running my fingers through the back of his dark hair.
"Stop shouting Bree, my head hurts." He complains, resting his head in his hands as he groans.
"Here, drink this." Lauren intervenes, sliding a mug across the kitchen counter towards Ryder. We both share a grimace as we look at the murky green liquid inside. I quickly pull the mug away from Ryder as he brings it to his lips about to take a sip.
"What is it?" I ask Lauren inquisitively.
"Ginger tea. It'll help settle Ryder's stomach." She tells us with a shrug. "I'll need you both in prime condition for when my niece comes to dinner."
I frown. "I didn't know you had a niece. When's she coming over?"
"This Saturday." She tells us excitedly, a smile growing widely on her face. "She's my brothers daughter. I haven't seen her in a couple months and she's never seen where I work so I thought we could all have dinner together."
"Ah sorry Laur, I have plans." Ryder tells Lauren pulling a slight face as he takes a sip of his tea. "Not that I really wanna spend my Saturday doing school work, but I already agreed with a buddy that we would."
I outwardly shivered at the mention of Ryder's 'buddy'. I'd honestly tried to forget all about Carson and Ryder's assignment and I guess I had hoped due to my boyfriend's blatant disliking for school that he'd too not remember about his little social studies project either. But I guess not, much to my dismay.
Lauren thinks about his words for a moment, before snapping her fingers together, almost as if a lightbulb had gone off in her head. "Problem solved. I'll change it from lunch to dinner. That way you can work all day on your school work and then have dinner with the rest of us in the evening." She frantically rambles on. "Your friend can even stay for dinner too, he'll probably be hungry. The more the merrier."
I lift my hand in protest. "Um, problem not solved. I don't want Carson here."
"Too bad." Ryder and Lauren say simultaneously.
Great. Not only has Carson been given the means to bother me during school hours, he now had a way to worm in on my home life.
Before I could talked myself into an even more depressed state, Herman peeps his head through the kitchen doorway. "Bree. Ryder. Peterson is here to drive you to school."
I hop out of my seat and usher Ryder to do the same as he groans at the mention of school. We wave goodbye to Lauren before following Herman towards the front of the house. "Hold on." I tell Ryder, standing in front of him before he can leave through the door, as I search inside my backpack.
"I think you'll be needing these." I say pulling out a pair of sunglasses and reaching onto my tiptoes. Ryder holds onto my waist to steady me as I place the dark shades over his eyes. His dimples that I adore so very much display across his face as he smiles.
"Have I mentioned how much I love you?"
