When the taxi arrived at the hospital we could hear ambulance sirens going. Mum and I got out of the taxi to the drivers protest as I threw a $50 note at him to shut him up. We sprinted into the hospital to find Dad and Rory pacing the waiting room.
"What happened!" Mum cried, hugging Dad.
"Why don't you ask your son?" Dad replied. Mum, eyes wide, turned to Rory who was sitting down with his head in his hands.
"It wasn't my fault! I didn't mean for it to happen it just did!" Rory cried and placed his head in his hands again, sobbing loudly. I came over and ruffled his wet hair.
"It's ok, what happeded?" I asked him softly. He looked up, tears threatning to spill over his red rimmed eyes.
"I escorted the twins to the jet ski club and I left them with the instructor to have lessons. A- after the lesson they wanted to try it out themselves but I thought it would be with the instructor and I s-said yes. Then they crashed the jet skis into each other." Rory burst into refreshed tears. I hugged him as the doctor came out.
"Devon?" He asked. Our heads snapped up.
"Come with me please" He lead the way to a room which we sat down in.
"They're both in very critical conditions. Eliza is in a coma and Alexia has been bleeding from a gash in her forehead ever since." Mum burst into tears at the news. We heard runnig footsteps approach the room. A nurse came in panting.
"She's- " The nurse must of just realized we were here. She whispered in the doctors ear before exiting the room as we hear the sound of retreating footsteps. The doctor turned to us.
"I'm sorry. But Eliza has just passed away" Mum burst into more tears and howled into Dad's shoulder.
"I'd better check on Alexia" The doctor calmly walked out of the room. We all just sat there in silence as the minutes ticked by on the annoying clock that sat beside the door.
Dad broke the silence.
"Well I don't know about you but I'm hungry" Dad started to get up but Mum pulled him back down.
"Tom! This is not the time to be hungry!" Mum scolded.
"But could you get me a burger?" Mum handed him a $10 note.
"Sure" Dad got up and left the room quickly. Rory mumbled something about the menu and followed him out.
"I'm just going to the bathroom" Mum got up off the couch and patted my head before following the signs down the hall.
A few minutes later and no one had come back, but the doctor came back in.
"Our condolences, your other sister had been bleeding eternally and has just lost too much blood. She's dead"
Well thanks for putting it that way mister!
And then I did the only thing I could do in that situation.
I cried.
