The time was seven o'clock am. Summer was finally transitioning into fall as the leaves turned from green to orange and brown hues. The wind crept in, sneaking like a thief in the night as students exchanged their shorts and sandals for close toed shoes and sweaters. The student population at Barrymore breathed in the humid air, exhaling anxiety and stress, as they maneuvered their way through the poster decorated halls.

Kehlani walked with assertiveness through the hall, beckoning whispers and sly stares as she made her way towards the front office. She felt empowered with a cold crispness as she chewed on her spearmint gum, her head standing tall with assurance. Her baggy high waist jeans danced against her hips while her 'Black Lives Matter' t-shirt clung to her tattooed skin.

In the process of opening up the door, Kehlani accidentally hit Lucas who was exiting the office from the other side.

"Ouch." Lucas groaned in pain, holding his head in pain, as he reached down to pick up his binder, which had slipped out of his hand.

Kehlani peeked her head inside the door, her mouth dropping, seeing what she'd done. "I'm so sorry. I didn't see you there!" She apologized, bending down to help him pick up his spilled items.

"You good." A red eyed Lucas barely made eye contact with Kehlani, as he scrambled to gather his folders together.

Kehlani picked up his 1 inch binder, and Lucas reached out for it as well, causing their hands to briefly touch. Lucas quickly moved his hand away.

"She's beautiful." Kehlani glanced at the collage of pictures that decorated his binder, before handing it to him. He had made a personalized collage of Melissa and him for his binder. "Is she your girlfriend?" Kehlani questioned.

She eyed Lucas, admiring the structure of his handsome face, from his full lips, to his long lashes, to the mole that dotted his chin; but quickly shook away the lustful thoughts swirling through her mind, knowing he was taken.
