Chapter 48

"Konoha-san, you seem a little distressed. Is there something wrong?" One of her subordinates asked as Konoha's brows furrowed at her tapes as she harshly bit the end of her pen. "This doesn't add up; the ghoul detector should've gone off."

"Oh, those are the new detectors. The old ones have been switched out a month ago." The subordinate informs as Konoha turns around with an arched brow, "Switched out?" As the fellow investigator nodded, Konoha quickly turned back towards her work and began looking through papers.

"I need to find out who (Name)'s last partner was!" Konoha exclaimed in frustration as she opened file cabinets over file cabinets trying to find as much information as she could.

Hours after hours passed by and hidden underneath many of discarded papers, Konoha had finally had a lead to you. "Ex-husband, Kaneki Ken," Lifting the paper up towards the ceiling, she let out a small giggle before inputting his information onto the computer. "It seems that he was involved in some investigator battles," Scrolling through his information, Konoha stopped at a particular bullet point, "Why look at this, half ghoul. Perfect!"

Haise and you made your way to work like usual when you noticed Konoha's form walking towards you with an unusual grin on her face that made you uneasy. "Good morning (Name)-san, maybe I talk to you privately please?" A little worried, you glance up over at Haise you also had a worried look on his face.

"Don't worry, it should be quick. I just need to clear a few things up and you can go on your day," Konoha states as you hesitantly nod and follow her into her office. "As you may know, it is my job to make sure we catch all the ghouls we can,"

"Of course," You respond as she walks over to her desk to pick up her folder before taking out a sheet and glancing over at you, "I have been doing my research and it appears that your old partner before Sasaki-san was a man by the name of Kaneki Ken?"

Furrowing your brows slightly with narrowed eyes, you nod, "Yes, that's correct," Walking over to her chair, she takes a seat with her legs crossed over the other as she smiles up at you, "From all of the research I have done, it seems that he as in fact half-ghoul, were you aware""

Your eyes widened at her statement. How could she have figured all of this out from some simple little research? "I am not, actually," you lie as she folded her hands and nodded. "Well, now you know. And because traits do pass on from generation, I want to come to a conclusion that one of your sons may actually be a ghoul! And like I have told you earlier, it is my job to catch these ghouls,"

"I am not letting you take my son away even if he is a ghoul," You yell as you crossed your arms angrily at her, leaning on one leg. "Oh, but it would be against CCG rules to let a ghoul escape, and besides, I've already sent investigators over towards your house."

Your eyes widened and your mouth dropped open as you violently turned around to face the main doors, "No!"

Chiaki looked over at the banging door as loud noises came from the other side. "Hinami?" He asked with a shaky voice as he let out a shriek as the door slammed open, investigators flooding the house as the came and grabbed Izuki and Chiaki.

"Hey! Let them go!" Hinami yelled as she tried to pull the investigators away from the young males. With rough pushes and shoves, Hinami fell back onto the ground as Chiaki's and Izuki's cries and screams filled the house.

Hinami tried her best to save the boys but it was nearly impossible when she was being held by another investigator, and she couldn't expose her ghoul self. "I'm sorry (Name)-san.."

"Oh, well speak of the devil!" Konoha stood up and walked over towards the door as investigators flooded the main lobby with your two boys. "You can't do this! They're just children!" You cry as you follow Konoha out of her office.

"Great job capturing them," Konoha chirped as she walked closer towards the two boys in the front of the group, "I know you're a ghoul, even if it's part ghoul. A Ghoul is a ghoul." A large crowd was beginning to form and you could feel your hands getting sweaty from Konoha revealing your son's true identity.

Pushing Konoha out of the way, you run and embrace your boys as you let out a shaky breath, "Are you two okay? Are you hurt?" Thankfully they were unharmed, but you couldn't help but become filled with anger.

"(Name)-san, we must take your son because he is a ghoul. You don't know the dangers of growing power! Especially because of how powerful of a ghoul your old partner was!" Konoha exclaimed as you stood firm in front of your children. "I will not let you take him from me."

Investigators began to surround you, Chiaki and Izuki. Haise and Akira running over to the ledge on the second floor when they were informed of what was happening. "Capture the ghoul," Konoha ordered as investigators began charging at the three of you.

Haise's eyes widened in shock as he watched the scene play out before him, but loud gasps and cries escaped mouths as a kagune shot out from Chiaki's small back and a large quinque was suddenly whipped out from Izuki's hands, you safely protected by your children as they defended themselves and you.

"Don't hurt my mom or my brother," Izuki said darkly as he gripped the activated quinque in his hands. Chiaki in a defensive stance as his bright red and glowing kagune swayed gently back and forth, his ghoul eye activated.

You watched from behind the boys, multiple feelings filling your chest as you watched your boys; they were risking themselves to protect you.

"I knew there was something your hiding, but the secret's out now. You have nowhere to hide (Name)."
