She raised her hand, fingers splayed out against the scene in front of us.
"Once I lifted my hands up in the air and realized that even though I'm shattered, my skin is whole. And maybe you never love two people the same way, but maybe you can love them differently. Maybe our hearts were meant to be broken, and spread across the world with everyone who leaves us. Maybe that's how we grow as big as the universe."
I played with the hem of my shirt, wondering if she really believed hearts were made to be broken. I wondered how big she'd grown, and how many times her heart had been shattered.
