Chapter Fifty-One: Rooftops// Golden Goodbyes
A month later and the world turned golden with sunlight. Last day of classes.
"Cecilia, don't go yet."
Silence and a broken smile.
"We'll work this out. I can take care of you."
"Don't. I can take care of myself."
"Babe, no. Look at me." I turned her around. "Everything is gonna be okay. You hear me?"
She looked at me but she couldn't see me. "You can't lie to me." A single tear rolled down her cheek and she hiccuped. Her eyes were dead.
"I need to go."
"Don't. Not just yet. Let me help you."
Another blank smile and unseeing eyes. This was the same smile she'd given me all those months ago. Back when I could almost see her wings.
But they weren't there anymore. "No. Somethings I need to handle alone."
"N-no, no, wait! Cecilia!"
