Chapter Three: Rooftop// We Meet Again
I went through the next couple of weeks without seeing her again. I didn't step back onto my rooftop because it was raining.
I kept an eye out for her though. She looked about my age, so there's a chance she went to my college. I didn't find her.
Once the rain cleared up, I sat outside again.
Part of me wanted to clear my head. Part of me was curious to see whether she would come. Lifting up the glass pane, I climbed out and stood up, careful not to let my feet slip on the wet roof tiles. Sliding my feet across, I shifted my weight slowly and sat down against the wall, immediately feeling the water soak through my shorts.
...Maybe this wasn't my best idea.
Sighing, I tugged on a lock of hair that had fallen onto my forehead. The view out here was beautiful, really. The light rain made everything glitter and sparkle, and the lights had a soft glow. Across the rooftops of the other houses, the tops of pine-trees peeked out at me. I took a deep breath, the cool air filling my lungs.
Slowly, I let my mind wander back over my most recent argument with my mother. It wasn't her fault.
I pursed my lips.
"Oi, awake again today?"
I jerked my head up, looking around to see where her voice was coming from.
"Up here."
I moved away from the wall, and looked up. She sat, swinging her legs, on a part of the roof that was higher than mine. I noticed she was barefoot and in shorts, like me. Catching my eye, she got up and slid down to the edge, jumping to where I was. I took in a sharp breath.
"That's dangerous! You could fall from that height!"
She righted herself and walked over to me, folding herself against the wall a few feet away from me, one leg bent upwards with the other laying straight. She put a hand behind her head and closed her eyes. "It's all good. I didn't fall."
"But you could've."
"But I didn't."I shut my mouth. She obviously wasn't going to listen. What did I care.
But I would, if a girl was lying dead on my driveway.
She turned to me. "So what brings you back out here?" She wiped the water droplets dripping down her face and frowned at her hair. "One second." She turned away from me and lifted her hips up, reaching into her pocket and retrieving a hair tie. Scooping her hair out of her face, she tied it back and blinked at me.
"Okay, now. You're awake again."
I was taken aback. "You've been watching me?"
She shook her head. "Nah. I just noticed you were up again."
I nodded. Yeah, that's totally different. Of course.
"...Just felt like coming out again."
I watched her carefully. The dull streetlamps cast a soft glow on her forehead and cheekbones, and a drop of water glinted at the tip of her nose. "What about you? You do this frequently?"
She wiped the drop off her nose and shook out her hand, shrugging. "Eh...I guess. What's your name?"
I sat quiet for a moment.
"Noel."
My name is Noel.

A/N: Sometimes, I'll put little, relevant drawings or word definitions in the media at the beginning of the chapter. Have a look, if you're curious! ^_^
It's slow going at the moment. But we need to get the basics down, and a lot of the chapters will be pretty short (hence the multiple updates) but I hope you stick with me!
Happy Friday! I'll see you Tuesday!
