She sighed. "There's this...feeling I can't quite place. Longing, I guess. I never really knew what it was until that day. I didn't understand why people talked about their heart hurting, until it was me. When someone you cherish leaves you, there's this...ocean of longing and pain that they leave behind. Your chest rips in two and you'd give anything to have them back. Anything."
I couldn't find anything to say so I stayed silent.
I wondered if she was slowly getting over it or if she was still drowning in her pain. I wondered if, among all that love she couldn't send out, there was space for me.
