"You know the hardest thing about leaving a person?" She rested her head on her knees. "It's not the actual leaving. Because that happens in a split second. They can walk out the door and never come back, and it's done. That's not the hardest thing ever.
The hardest thing is living with it. The flashbacks over the next six months... then the occasional memory after that. Every time it happens, you lose them all over again."
She sighed. "And you know, sometimes it breaks my heart that life is so long."
