After I sucked up my fear of actually going back to the pack house to see Graham, I knew I had no other place to go and it was silly for me to be acting the way I was. It was my house in the first place, and this is my pack. I needed to stop being selfish and put them first.
I woke up the next morning with the determination to fix everything I had wrecked. I had a long day ahead of me, but I was actually looking forward to the work.
I went downstairs and didn't spot Graham anywhere. But I could smell his presence. He must still be asleep.
I decided to be a good best friend and make him breakfast. I flipped some pancakes and soon enough, the aroma had him trudging down the stairs, trying to get his bed hair to cope with him.
I smiled at him sweetly and set a plate down at the bar where he was seated. "I made breakfast."
"I see." He replies coolly and started digging into his meal. I grabbed a plate myself and plopped it down right in front of him.
"You know I'm still mad at you right?" He asked, looking up from pouring heaps of sticky syrup all over his pancakes that were now starting to float.
"And you know I'm sorry right?" I sighed and silently hoped this conversation would end up with us making up. I hated being in a fight with Graham, and this definitely wasn't the time with all of the work that needed to be done. I needed my beta and more importantly, my best friend.
"Melony...." He started to speak, but I cut him off. I was the one who owed him an explanation.
"Look Graham. I know I haven't been completely honest with you lately. But you're important to me and you know that. I don't know what I would do if I lost you. And I know you're going through a hard time right now. Trust me, I think everyone is. But you just need to understand why I can't tell you everything right now. It isn't the time for it. What we need to worry about, is our duty to this pack. There are other broken people out there, and we need to fix it."
I could tell Graham was thinking by the way he stared at his plate and stirred his pancakes around on the plate. He looked up at me an open expression.
"Okay Melony. I trust you. I do. But sooner or later you're going to have to tell me what all of this is about. I'm worried about you." He said.
"I understand. And when the time is right, I will tell you."
"Thanks. So what are we going to be doing with the pack today?" he asked, gaining his appetite once again and smashing the food into his mouth. That's the Graham I knew.
"I was planning on calling a work day for everyone. Maybe we can all work together and get this town fixed up brand new. I want everything to be back in place before the day is over." I said and he nodded his head.
"Sounds like a good plan to me. I'll go ahead and head down to the Town Hall. I'll get the book and set up a meeting while you get ready."
"Thanks." I appreciated him taking charge for once and letting me relax instead of worrying all the time. For today I wasn't going to think about the whole witch thing, and the fact that everyone knew my father more than I did.
I ran upstairs, took a shower, and put on some clothes. I threw my hair up in a ponytail and decided against putting on any makeup since I was just going to be working.
I made my way to city hall, as did many other werewolves. Families circled around the front of the building while Graham stood at the front, greeting all of the families. I smiled at how well he got along with everyone, and how admiring they were of him.
