I could hear my heartbeat picking up and throbbing in my ears. My feet were pounding against the fresh grass. I didn't even have time to change into my wolf.

The only thing that was on my mind was finding Carter. I had hurt my best friend and my sister. Who knows what more I could do. I was getting more powerful and I couldn't control my actions.

Carter's small cabin finally came into view and I sprinted towards it. I stepped onto the front porch and caught my breath. I knocked hard, but there was no answer.

"Cmon you have to be here!" I grunted annoyed.

I pounded my fists against the door and kicked it, angry at myself and at Carter.

Then I got a brilliant idea. I reached for the doorknob and took a deep breath, and it actually surprised me when it twisted underneath my fingertips, and the wooden door smoothly pushed open.

That was easier then I made it seem.

I stepped inside and called out for Carter," Carter! Are you home? Carter!"

But there was no reply.

Where was he?

A sense of curiosity overcame me, and I figured I would wait it out until he came back. I prodded through his house and looked trough every drawer and every crevice. But there wasn't anything too interesting.

Then I reached a locked door. I twisted and pushed and pulled but wouldn't budge. What could be in there?

Suddenly, the front door barged open and I dashed to the living room. I jumped onto the couch at about the time Carter trotted in.

He was sweaty and breathing hard, like he had been running a marathon.

"Melony. Where the hell have you been? I ran all the way to your house and you weren't there. The town is in chaos. No one knows what just happened. I was worried about you." Carter's eyes met mine and I looked down.

He was worried about me.

"I'm sorry. I just got scared and you're the first person I though of."

After a moment of silence, a pair of arms wrapped around me and held me close. I was flabbergasted that Carter was actually holding me. He didn't seem like the embracing type.

"I'm glad you came here. I figure you have some questions for me huh?" Carter quickly pulled his arms back and he took a seat on the couch in front of me.

I tried pulling out a single question, but they all seemed to jumble around in my mind. So many questions.

But the only question I could conceive was,

"Am I dangerous?"

Carter looked away and then fixed his gaze right on mine.

"Yes."

I gasped. I already knew the answer to his question, but hearing someone say it out loud, it scared me.

"How so?"

"Melony... If you don't learn how to control your powers, they'll grow out if control and you could be a threat to everyone. Even to yourself. Today, you were angry. You didn't know how to control that anger and it caused an earthquake."

I stared dumbfounded at him. I didn't just have magical powers. I was cursed.

"Was anyone hurt?" I blurted out. I hadn't even stayed behind to see how my pack was holding up. What a great leader I was.
