Build You a Fortress
Truly
I never saw
the world
I made
for you
when we played
stayed
all alone
at home
on the nights
they were
away
and we built
a fortress
from a maze
of chairs
from which
we watched
each storied
plot
and forgot
the monsters real
for a moment
in our own
world apart
from pain
There you
saw me
as more
than I
saw myself
and I was king
but now
I can only dream
about building
those places again
I would
build you a fortress
if I could
to house
your broken heart
against the monsters
in this dark
grown up world
