A poem about my father

One person has been with me

My whole life

You may not have been perfect

For the first twelve years of my life

I was scared of you

And I still bear some scars of your doing

That will never fade

But one day

I hit back

And soon after that, you quit drinking

And a lot of my life changed

Instead of two alcoholic parents

Mother was the only active addict in the house

Life became easier

You taught me better

And became a good parent

But still when no one was looking

I was often in the wrong

Then one-day mom left

And I started to act out even more

Then I got arrested

You were pissed

Understandably so

But you helped

I paid for most of my lawyer fees

But you put down the first deposit

And in the end

I came out alright

Now as I begin to ready myself to move out

You show nothing but support

And help me get everything I need
