A/N: (TRIGGER WARNING) this will have some dark stuff (abuse, self-harm) it isn't here to offend anyone, I'm testing my empathic writing and feel like an occasional story with things like this will be an interesting change. Comment your opinions.
Third person POV:
"And this is Rhee Yani. Please take care of her." The teacher introduces the new student but unlike normal, people take an interest. The normal reply is a deprived moan of yes from the students, still too tired to recognise their surroundings but instead, their eyes watch her to her seat and whispering erupts.
"Ugh, she's super pretty.", "Bet she's a slut." "Her skirt is short, already trying to get loads of guys." Quite normal for a new student to be judged on first glance, quickly labelled with false tags. However, the comments are a blurred background noise to Yani. She's been bullied a lot in her life so a few meaningless comments have become part of the birds chirping and the wind in the air. It's so normal that she would have questioned why no one was being mean if people hadn't been judging. None of the comments are personal though, the girls of the class naturally feel challenged by a new, beautiful girl. However, they are unaware of her background. Challenging her is a pointless effort.
She walks to an empty seat at the back and just like a cliche romcom, she is next to a very good looking guy. But by second nature she avoids eye contact and keeps to herself. She's not shy or scared, just very aware of how this all goes.
"You're not taking notes?" The pretty boy next to her asks. And this will be her first conversation in her new school. She turns to him, unsure why it is any of his concern. His book is open and only has the date and title scribbled down. She's not even opened her book yet. Not necessary. With such an awful childhood, all she had was old school books to read to take up her wasting time. She's re-read each of them multiple times over and taught herself. Once she got hold of the internet, her first use for it was to teach herself. The modern-day Matilda without powers. She could take her end of year test now and pass with perfect marks but by law, she has to go to school. Whatever she says now to this boy will define her for the rest of her school year.
Yani's POV ||
"Nah." I say lightheartedly with a smile. Pulling off a cute girl look will be easy compared to being the quiet girl which makes you an easy target. I learned that the hard way.
"We have tests coming up soon, you're new but you still have to do them." He informs me but I shrug.
"I look forward to it. So why aren't you taking notes?" I gesture to the board which is covered in things to write down.
"Because I don't care about it, I just thought I would tell you that you probably should." He says.
I lean on my hand. "You already know it or do you have to pull off the bad boy image for everyone?" I ask a little curious but the tone of my voice is slightly teasing.
"This is revision work so I already know it and what do you mean 'pull off an image'?" He asks frowning. Playfully I roll my eyes.
"C'mon, this whole 'I don't care look' you're doing looks so unnatural on you. I assume everyone knows you for it but I bet you have the most adorable smile." I say and he almost smiles but controls it. He looks at me curiously.
"What's your first name?" He asks, sitting up shifting to face me fully. Normally I wouldn't let someone just call me by my first name straight away but if I have someone familiar at school, it may keep people away from me.
"Yani and you are?" I ask.
He pushes his hand through his hair. "Taehyung but everyone knows me as V."
