[BEN FANKHAUSER]

"Sweetheart," a hand cupped my shoulder, shaking it back and forth.

I opened my groggy eyes and squinted up at Ben, removing the sheets from my pajama-clad body. "Yeah?" I felt his grip move from my shoulder to my hand, holding them close to his chest.

"I have to get to the theater early for something." Ben replied, "Go ahead and take my car and I'll just get a taxi."

"What for?" I watched as he left the bed and finished dressing himself.

"Lewis is stepping in for Les tonight and he wants to run a few lines." He buttoned the last clasp on his shirt and leaned down to kiss me. "Love you."

"Love you, too," I returned the gesture and lay back on the bed, confused, cold, and tired.

I began to situate the tie of my first Katherine outfit, brushing the occasional wig hair that fell into my face away. I had yet to see Ben and no one would inform me on his whereabouts. I did know that he had lied, as our usual Les was on today and Lewis wasn't even at the theater. I was angry in the slightest at his behavior, but knew he was the sweetest boyfriend anyone could ask for. The worst Ben could do was not show up for a date. And even that was yet to happen.

He finally showed up at five minute call, planted a kiss on my cheek, and moved off to get dressed. I went through the first act dazed and confused, noticing Ben staring at me more often than usual. Finally, curtain call arrived, and I waited until it was my turn to prance up the stage and dip low to the ground. I lifted my head back up and moved off beside Ben on the bottom row of the set. After Corey bowed, the whole company did so together one or twice.

I took a few steps towards the west wing before noticing that no one else was moving. I furrowed my brows tightly, gaping at them embarrassingly. "What's happening?" I muttered to Capathia, who stood a few feet away.

She gave me a knowing smirk and pointed down the line to Ben. I spun around to face him, and immediately felt the tears prick at my pupils. "What's going on?" My eyes widened and my hands shook at my sides, grasping my skirt in their clutch.

"Kate," Ben popped open the box he had been fumbling with and held it out to me. "I might've lied this morning."

"You definitely lied this morning," I pressed a hand over my open lips and took a step towards.

"Well, I promise I will never lie to you again," he nodded, letting out a short laugh, "so long as you promise to never to me."

"Of course I promise," I motioned for him to hurry up, and added, "Now please ask me so I can kiss you."

I noticed our mics had been turned back on, and the audience and company rang with laughter at my words. "Kate, will you marry me?" Ben took the ring form the box and held it between his fingers, dropping the velvet contraption somewhere.

"Yeah, yes, of course," I shook my head in every different direction, and he pulled himself off the floor.

A flood of cheers rang out form every corner, but it felt as if it was just Ben and I. He slid the ring onto my finger and pulled me into him, our lips mixing somewhere in between our intertwined bodies.
