following kara lindsay's departure from the newsies cast, you had been given the role. weeks after you were announced as katherine plumber, you were to be shown around the theater. not much information had been passed along to you, such as who would be giving you the tour. but once you arrived on that afternoon, you met ben fankhauser.

charming, charismatic, attractive, and dorky, ben fankhauser. he wore a blue button-up shirt, rolled up to his elbows, a pair of black-rimmed glasses, and slim blue jeans. his squared jawline held a brilliant smile the entire day, and his eyes displayed how much he adored the nederlander theater.

at the end of the tour, ben showed you to your dressing room, which held a large banner across the mirror congratulating you on your role. you glanced around for a moment, admiring the decorations already put up by your roommate, lavon fisher wilson.

"she really likes pink," you laughed, brushing a hand over a bouquet of fake roses.

ben nodded, "that she does."

he stepped further into the dressing room and shut the door behind him. you leaned against the wall and watched as ben looked around. a small smile crept on his face as he met your eyes. he blushed when you winked at him and quickly flicked his eyes away. he adjusted his glasses, his lips moving as he struggled to break the silence.

"what's that paper in your hand for?" you nodded at the crinkled sheet.

he grinned and unfolded it. "a schedule. for you."

you reached out for it, and he handed it over. ben moved to stand next to you, his finger pointing out different times of shows this week. he was fidgety and stuttered because of the tight space between you, which you found adorable. you moved back somewhat, so your hip was pressing into his stomach. ben's voice cracked and he gulped.

your hand grabbed the one that was on the paper, and you moved it to point at the open slot for monday. "i'm free then."

"y-yeah, you are," ben shuddered.

you turned to face him, a playful smile dancing on your lips, "and so are you."

"yep." he licked his lips a few times, "i am."

"pick me up at seven. i'm sure you have my phone number, considering it's printed at the corner of the paper."

ben grinned. "i think that could work."
