Chapter 26: Back in the Saddle

I grabbed the saddle pad and saddle and put it on Barney. I tightened the girth so Matt could get on.

"Can you get on him really quick so I can adjust the stirrups?" I asked.

"Yep." He walked around Barney then got on.

I adjusted the stirrups, "Okay they are all set. Now just let me get the bridle so you can get use to him." I went in the tack room and grabbed Barney's bridle with a snaffle bit.

I put the bridle on him and put the reins over his head, "Don't go to far but walk around a little bit." He nodded and rode off a little bit.

I then went in the tack room and grabbed Storm's saddle pad and saddle pad then put it on him. I adjusted the girth the got the bridle. I put the bridle on. I got on the cantered over to Matt.

"Hey how do you like Barney?" I asked.

"He's a cutie! I love him!" He said in excitement.

"Great! He is a very well trained boy!" I said smiling.

"Can I see ya jump?" He asked as we were walking.

"Sure I'll beat you to the arena?" I said as I started galloping off towards the arena. I looked back and Matt was right behind me. We started to stop.

I opened the arena door then walked in and had Matt come in after. I clicked then started a canter. We did a couple loops then I started to jump 5ft. Rails. Storm did win gold in summer Olympics for jumping.

I finished all 10 5 ft jumps and walked over to Matt.

"So what do you want to do?" I asked as I stopped next to Matt. I side stepped over to the right to get closer.

"I don't know but that was amazing!" He said smiling with his cute glasses on. I started to smile.

"Wonna go to the canyon where I think about my life? That's where I was when Steven called me." I asked starting chuckle.

"Sure! Lead the way." He said. I started to gallop off and I looked behind me and Matt was following.

"Keep it going Storm." I whispered to Storm and went a little faster. I dropped the reins and raised my hand in the air. I looked back and saw Matt behind me and he was shaking his head laughing.

I grabbed the reins and the canyon was about a half mile ahead, "Give it all you got." I whispered to Storm and went in a full run. I looked behind me and Matt was about 5 feet behind me. I looked ahead and started to slow down because we were there.

"Wow you have a great bond between horses!" He said when we stopped.

I laughed and said, "Thanks! Storm listens to me. He is the only one besides you that will actually listen to me. That's why I spent so much time with him. You know how I raised my hands?"

"Yeah that was amazing." He said smiling.

"That's because I told him to keep it up. He listens to everything I say and does it. If I would have just dropped the reins he would have stopped right away but I told him that and he went a little faster." I said patting Storm on his neck.

"Cool! So is this where you were when Steven called?" He looked down the canyon.

"Yep I had just gotten off to. Check if his hoof was clean. Storm loves my ring tone!" I said laughing.

"What's your ring tone?" He chuckled while turning his head towards me.

"It's embarrassing but I guess you will know what it is." I said getting on my phone. I found the ring tone then played it. I put my head on Storm's neck in embarrassment.

"Doctor who fan aren't you!" He said laughing.

"We should probably be getting back it's getting dark." I said turning Storm's head.

"Ok I'll race ya there?!" Matt asked.

"Your on! Storm is way faster than Barney!" I said.

"Well let's see if that's true!" He blew past me and whispered I Storm's ear, "Give him all you got!" Storm went super fast and blew right past Matt, "Take us home." I whispered again in Storms ear. When he hears that he goes full blow to home.

I looked behind me and Matt was trying to go faster and we were getting more and more separated due to Storm's speed.
