Fear of Falling (Complete)

Kagami hurtled towards earth. Or was earth hurtling towards him? He wasn't sure anymore, all he was sure of was that he had no idea if he would survive landing. The land was getting closer and closer, he didn't have much time to prepare. All he could do was use his hands to protect his head and let his back take the grunt of the fall.

The ground slammed into him, making him completely lose his breath. He felt like his body was half buried into the ground, but he'd landed so hard that half the ground underneath him got displaced to the sides around him. He had to lay there for several minutes, just collecting himself to be able to function again. Kagami closed his eyes, forcing himself to take as big of breaths as he could manage, replacing the air in his lungs that had been forced out.

After a minute, he started to wiggle his fingers and toes. Little by little, he was able to move his body again and actually sit up. He looked around where he was, the green grass, trees and flowers surrounding him looked familiar. The crater he'd made when he landed left the landscape just different enough that he had no idea where he was.

He grunted as he pushed himself into standing. He had to figure out where he was, he had to find Aomine. He closed his eyes, trying to focus on the meadow by Aomine's cave to try and change his scene to be there. When he opened his eyes, he was faced with the same crater and disheveled nature. He tried to change his scene again just to see if it would work. It didn't. Of course it didn't. Akashi took his grace, he wasn't an angel anymore. He was just one that had fallen and now was human. That didn't bother him, he chose that fate. What did bother him was that he couldn't protect Aomine anymore, he didn't even know where he was.

He climbed out of the crater and saw the mouth of a cave at the edge of what used to be a grassy clearing. Kagami's eyes widened. Could he really have landed in the spot where he'd spent so much time with Aomine? He tried to run, but more like stumbled over to the cave. Sure enough, everything that Aomine usually kept was here. This was Aomine's spot. Kagami furrowed his brow, biting his lip. There was no Aomine.

Kagami had to look for him. He was in a different place when he was taken away from him. Maybe Aomine was still somewhere closer to there and making his way back to this clearing? Kagami waited a little longer, just in case Aomine would be coming back here. He also waited because now that he'd stopped, he could really assess the damage he'd sustained. He leaned against the wall of cave, slumping down against it. He really was so tired, that fall had taken a lot more out of him than he'd expected.

He looked down to see his hands and arms covered in cuts and bruises. He was bleeding. Kagami had never bled before, angels didn't bleed. The sight of the red liquid slowly pumping out of the gashes on his arms and legs made him feel lightheaded. Something about his shoulder felt weird too, he couldn't move his arm properly. It felt like it was... in the wrong place.

Kagami leaned his head back against the wall. He seemed to be lucky to have survived the fall at all. Since he had no idea how to treat any of these injuries, he actually wasn't sure he'd survive at all. But if saving Aomine meant falling from heaven and dying as a human, then it was worth it. He just wished that he could see Aomine one last time.

He swallowed, his throat was so dry. He'd never really felt thirst like this before. Maybe he really was destined to die here, waiting for his love to come back. After all, he had no idea how to take basic care of himself. Kagami closed his eyes, taking as big a breath as he could even though every breath made his chest hurt.

He was ready to give up, to just let death take him, but he could feel a light shine through his eyelids. He was inside the cave, it couldn't be sunlight. He opened his eyes to narrow slits, he was nearly blinded by a bright blue light.
