A flinch when she slapped his back was enough to make her smile fade.
"What was that?"
She could see how he tried to hide the fact that he had to take a deep breath before putting on a smile.
"What was what?"
"You know what I mean, Anthony. Why did you flinch?"
She could see his smile widen a little as he answered, "well, you know, controlling heat can result in accidents sometimes. My back just hurts from a slight burn I got yesterday when trying out new things."
She felt it deep within her, a small piece of her broke at the sight of him lying. She knew exactly why he'd flinched, but it was so utterly devastating to see him hide such important truth. Suddenly, she wasn't grateful for him being the moodmaker. Suddenly, she'd rather see everyone sad, than him lying again.
