A Heart's Thoughts

Before the beginning - Jude

"Jude, sweetie, wake up! The men from the Ministry are here to see you!"

Jude opened his eyes immediately upon hearing his mother's excited voice. 

"They're here for me?" he asked

"Yes! And it seems they need your help! Isn't that wonderful?"

Jude smiled brightly as he jumped out of bed and followed his mother to the living room, where three men dressed in all black stood waiting. One of the men faced them when they entered. He smiled at his mother.

"Thank you, miss. We will return your son shortly." He lowered his gaze to Jude, "your name is Jude, right? You can control minds?"

Jude looked up at his mother who nodded, and beamed proudly at the man, "yes, that's me!"

The man chuckled and put a hand on his shoulder, "let's go, we have a job for you. We need to test out your powers to see how well they work. You'll be joined by another boy your age."

They walked a few minutes until they reached a house, where several other men in black were waiting. A single young boy stood among them, looking nervous. They walked toward him.

"Eden, this is the boy who will be working with you today. He can control minds," he turned to Jude, "Jude, this is Eden. His secondary power is erasing memories. We don't know how well his powers work yet, so if he can't get the job done, you will have to do it, understood?"

Jude nodded and eyed the boy, who had a worried look on his face. He looked back up at the man, "excuse me, sir, what exactly am I supposed to do?"

The man looked down at Jude in silence for a few seconds before answering.

"In this house, there are people who didn't follow the rules. Your parents must have taught you it's bad to break the rules, right? And you get punished when you don't listen to your parents. We punished these people and now we want to make them forget why they broke the rules. That way we don't have to punish them again later."

Jude nodded, "that's nice of you. I don't like it when mom punishes me."

The man nodded, "exactly. We're being nice to them."

The man stopped talking when the front door opened and a man stepped out. The man started yelling and two Ministry men restrained him. A little girl was sitting on the floor a little distance from the man. She looked scared and beaten. Jude heard the other boy gulp and whisper a name.

The man next to Jude moved to Eden and slapped him on the back, "go on, boy, you can test out your powers on that girl. You know her, right? It's okay if you mess up, we have Jude here to fix any mistakes you make."
