I wake to darkness. How long I've been asleep, I don't know. All I remember is David, the codes, gunshot, blinding pain, and then red. My eyes adjust, I am in a large white room; no windows, the only thing in it is a large metal table with a heart monitor next to it, dangling above is a camera. Dozens of wires are attached to me, and plugged into the monitor. The smell of antiseptics lingers in the air. Immediately I panic. I am back in the Erudite headquarters, back where they experimented on me to discover the secret to my Divergence. Back where my brother betrayed me, back where I almost died, back where the only reason I didn't was because I was saved by Peter, the psychopath that stabbed Edwards eye with a butter knife, the person that saved me from dying, the person that helped Tobias and I escape. Tobias! Oh God Tobias! Where is he? What happened to him? Is he even alive? I hear the heart monitor beep faster and faster till my chest hurts and I struggle to breathe. I hold my breath trying to release some of the pressure that is swelling in my throat. I force that thought out of my head, Tobias is alive, he has to be. Now that I have an idea of what happened and where I am, the question is why, why am I here? Who brought me here? I am suddenly aware of a shadow in the corner of the room, I see a face. I concentrate as hard as I can on the face, it is my Mother, but that is impossible, my Mother is dead. I watched her crumple to the ground, crimson seeping from each bullet hole to her torso. She died for me. And yet, she is standing right here before me. She looks real, she smells real-

"Beatrice..." She says softly. She sounds real, oh how I want her to be real. "Beatrice" she begins again. I then have a brief moment of remembrance, My Mother, my Mother brought me here. After he shot me. "Beatrice...I...It's me."

"How can this be? I saw you die."

"On the verge of death yes, dead no. After I got shot I crawled away, I tried to go after you, but weak from blood loss I fainted. When I awoke you were gone, I knew where the others would go-"

"The others?" I interrupt.

"The Abnegation that were preserved in the safe-house." She explains "They were going to the safest possible faction to turn to-"

"Amity?" I ask, she nods

"Weak but determined I made my way to their headquarters. Upon my arrival they immediately took me to their hospital where they observed my wounds. They had to remove the bullets, but they were so deeply rooted that the doctors had to pry them out with a knife." She swallows nervously like she's afraid of what comes next; she looks so pale, so fragile I can't believe she's my mother. Her voice is shaking "That is when they realized that it wasn't in fact bullets I was shot with.... They were injections, a long time version of the transmitters."
