To be aeonian was to be everlasting and immortal. The beauty of it was being able to watch as the world evolved and changed right in front of your eyes, but with immortality came a price to pay.

Nature would always find its way to restore balance into the earth.

They were the Mikaelsons and the first ever vampires to be created in existence. They were the names that sent shivers down spines and spread fear in the air. Separated, they were strong but together, they were powerful. They valued family above anything else, even if their actions didn't align with the love they wanted to show because were taught that they were abominations and unlovable.

They were quiet for a long time, but they're coming back and one of them was already here in a town called Mystic Falls in Virginia.

Ezekiel glanced around the small apartment he stayed in ever since he stepped foot in Mystic Falls years ago. He could do anything away from his brother and his family of dysfunctional and very old vampires.

He could be anyone he wanted to because nobody in this little town knew who or what he was. It felt good to be able to have his own space, peace and a new identity and everyday, he found comfort in that reality.

He grabbed the keys for his motorcycle off the kitchen counter and headed for the door.

Summer's over and the rest of his life has just started again.

Ezekiel neared Matt standing by his locker with his eyes fixated on someone down the hallway. Ezekiel's head turned to see Elena and he shot her a wave as Matt slammed his locker shut and pulled his headphones out.

"Are you still upset you got dumped?"Ezekiel questioned and opened his locker beside Matt.

"I got dumped,"Matt scoffed.

"Yeah, and her parents died. I think you getting dumped is the least of everyone's worries,"Ezekiel shut his locker and pulled his bag strap onto his shoulder.

"I get it, you know, but she didn't have to push me away,"Matt said.

"I could've been there for her,"his brows furrowed as he went deep into thought.

"Only she knows what she needs,"Ezekiel shrugged.

His head turned as he heard a happy squeal and a pair of arms wrapped around his waist. He glanced down to see Caroline.

"I've missed you,"she smiled up at him.

"Hey,"Ezekiel planted a kiss on her cheek.

"How's Elena?"he questioned.

"She said she's fine and she feels better,"Caroline shrugged.

"I'm gonna head to class,"Matt walked away and put his headphones back on.

"Are we hanging out at the grill today?"she questioned and twirled a strand of her blonde hair on her finger.

Ezekiel wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
