"Good morning everyone,"a man walked into the class after Bonnie rushed in and headed for her desk.

"Alrighty,"he said and began to write his name out on the board with chalk.

He stepped aside and faced the class.

"Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue,"he heaved out a sigh.

"Saltzman is of German origins. My family immigrated here in 1755 to Texas."

"I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now, the name Alaric belonged to a very dead great-grandfather that I will never be able to thank enough."

"You'll probably want to pronounce it Alaric, but it's Alaric, okay? So you can call me Rick.. I'm your new history teacher,"he nodded and started the class.

Ezekiel sat at a bench table on the courtyard with Matt for lunch.

"How are you handling it?"he questioned.

"I just don't get it, you know? Why would she leave just like that?"Matt poked around his food.

"She's... she believes she's a screw-up, Matt. This is the life she chose,"Ezekiel said and heaved out a sigh, his heart heavy with the lie told.

"What's going on with you and Caroline?"he questioned again.

"Nothing, man, we're just hanging out,"Matt shrugged casually.

Ezekiel nodded and downed the rest of his drink.

"Do you still love her?"Matt stopped playing with his food and questioned him back.

"I always will,"Ezekiel shrugged.

"Caroline and me is like you with Elena,"he said.

"I don't know, man. I've been trying to wrap my head around many things,"he groaned and shook his head.

Like how Ezekiel was the reason Matt is all alone and Vicki is dead. He killed his best friend's little sister.

The bell rang and they got up to get to their next class.

Alexandra stood in front of Ezekiel, blocking him from walking into the school as everyone else walked by them. Matt left him with a thumbs up.

"I can't do this right now, Alex. I'm sorry,"he said and walked away.

She grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

"That's all I get? What the hell is going on with you?"she scoffed.

"You're sorry? One minute you're a gentleman and the next, you're an asshole,"she said.

"Yeah, and I'm sorry,"Ezekiel repeated.

"You don't call me or text me for a whole month and when I see you, you're avoiding me,"Alexandra frowned and shook her head in disappointment.

"I thought we were friends, Zeke."

"We're not,"he turned to her.

"We can't be friends, Alex,"he shook his head and walked away.

He had to hurt her. He had to hurt her enough for her to leave him because being around him would never be safe for her. His world was a different kind of danger than the fact that she was an unturned werewolf.
