FIFTEEN

"We're ditching."

"What?"

Gaping, Eren stared at Levi as the words flowed easily from his mouth. Eren then shook his head frantically. He could not afford to ditch. He'd get his ass beat by Mikasa and his mother. He swallowed at the mere idea, shuddering.

"You deaf? I said, we're ditching," Levi stated once more. "I can't ditch, Levi! I'll get grounded for months and Mikasa will pummel me if I skip!" Eren protested urgently. Levi rolled his dark eyes, sighing. "No, you won't," he growled.

"Oh, yes, I so won't," Eren rambled sarcastically, throwing his hands up in the air during a series of odd gestures. "I literally was told by Mikasa that if I missed third period, she'd kick my ass! And my mom, she's no joke. I will legitimately never see my fucking phone ever again!" Eren started to pace back and forth.

"Oi!" Levi suddenly yelled, snapping his fingers. Instantly, Eren halted. He stopped talking immediately, his attention fully fixed onto Levi. Seeming satisfied with this fact, Levi smirked slightly and explained, "I have it taken care of."

"Taken care of?" Eren echoed, frowning. "What do you mean, taken care of?" Levi waved a hand dismissively, huffing as he answered, "I can get my friend to pull a few strings in the attendance system, plus she's managed to snag tons of passes. And I can assure you, she does excellent forgery. You're covered, brat. You can ditch the first two periods with me, then go back during third with a nurse's pass. Your mother won't suspect a thing and my bitch cousin won't flip her shit. Happy?"

"Dear God," Eren mumbled, stunned. "Did you plan this?" Levi shrugged. "Well, duh. When you and your friend can't fall asleep, you start talking about things. This topic came up, I guess," he enlightened, shrugging again.

It was true. Due to Levi's insomnia and the irritation he had received from dealing with his rancid uncle Kenny, he had called Hanji. He knew she would be up, probably working on some bizarre experiment on her poor pet rats Sonny and Bean, or jotting down new ideas. They had exchanged idle conversation, and Hanji's constant bubbly mood had somewhat lifted Levi's poor one.

Along some lines, he brought up ditching. He had been thinking of skipping school with Eren for months, but only now had he been given the opportunity to. Hanji, being the major geek as well as psycho she was, promised him she'd sneak into the computer lab during homeroom and alter the attendance records for Eren Yeager. She seemed incredibly fascinated by him when Levi mentioned Eren, and the short teen worried mildly that Hanji would go poking around in Eren's business, either to his face or behind his back. Either way, it would most likely be bad.

Yet, he knew he couldn't hide Eren forever. At least for now and from Hanji. With them hanging out more and more, and his barely-noticeable-but-there personality shifts, Hanji was bound to catch on to something. He decided to let her know beforehand and get something out of her in return.

"Come on," Levi pressed, and a look of doubt flashed over Eren's features. "I'm promising you, it will be fine. Seriously. My friend has it all taken care of. I can text her right now telling her to write a nurse's pass for you. If you say yes."

"She can really hack into the school system?" Eren inquired hesitantly, and Levi nodded. "Yeah. I've seen her do it. She's a huge tech freak, you know? Her name's Hanji Zoë," he replied, and Eren's eyes stretched wide.
