SIXTY
♜ ♜ ♜When school finally ended, Eren was relieved.
As fast as he could, he collected his things, slinging his backpack over his shoulders with a hidden grimace. Glancing around, he didn't bother to wait or look for Mikasa as he hurried as fast as he could out of the building.
The day had been an absolute disaster.
After his episode in the cafeteria, whispers followed him wherever he went. People would send him either pitiful or loathing looks, and he was sick of it. He just wanted to be left alone, but apparently that was too much to desire.
Exiting the school, he saw Mikasa lingering around by the buses. She probably assumed Eren was taking one to avoid her. If she guessed that, she was wrong. He was going to walk and avoid her. Her loitering around by the buses in an attempt to stop him from boarding was futile. Immensely so.
Turning away quickly, Eren hurried as fast as he could in the opposite direction. He didn't want Mikasa or anyone else he knew to notice him. The only person he would remotely tolerate seeing and talking to would be Levi.
However, his dreams were crushed when a familiar figure came running towards him. "Eren! Eren!" Hanji sang, making Eren cringe. Shut up! He thought, peering around to see if Mikasa had noticed the commotion coming from them.
Miraculously, she hadn't. So Eren whipped around to stare incredulously at Hanji, who smiled obliviously at him. "How was your day?" Hanji chirped, slinging an arm around him. Eren hissed out in pain as she touched sensitive bruises.
"P-please, get off me, Hanji!" Eren exclaimed, trying to disguise his rising wince. Hanji blinked, hastily removing herself from him. "Sorry, Eren," she chuckled, adjusting her glasses. "I didn't know you were that sensitive."
Shrugging, Eren continued on his way, hoping that Hanji would get bored and abandon him. But it was Hanji, so of course she stayed glued to his side. "Do you think I could come over?" She asked randomly. "You know, hang out?"
Startled, Eren said, "Well . . . I mean . . . Yeah, sure. But just — just not today, Hanji." Hanji pouted, crossing her arms over her chest and huffing dramatically. "Why not?" She demanded, and Eren sighed. She was just like a child.
"Because I have plans today, Hanji," Eren lied, praying his ears didn't betray him and turn red to signal his lie. They had the occasional habit of doing that; he was almost out of it, though. Thankfully, because he had been lying a lot lately.
"Plans? Aw. Well, what are you doing?" Hanji inquired, and Eren quickened his pace, although it hurt him drastically to do so. He just wanted Hanji off his tail. She was prying far too much. She says she wants to be a scientist, or a zoologist, but she acts like some detective, Eren thought bitterly, clenching his jaw.
"It's personal, Hanji," Eren snapped. In truth, he didn't want her over at his house in case his father was home. Plus, there was a higher risk that Hanji could see something suspicious. And the added fact that his mother would be annoyed with him for having a guest over right after everything that had happened.
Besides, he wanted a moment of peace, anyway.
"Huh. Well, alright. I'll see ya later then, Eren! I suppose I'll just go run some errands then," she said, winking. Eren cringed at her pun, shaking his head. "My God," he muttered, and Hanji giggled. "You know it was funny!"
