"When will you forgive me?" Mr. Mendoza asked Maine as soon as he closed the door behind him. She sat up properly and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Forgive you? Dad, alam mo na ba yung damages nang ginawa mo?" she asked back. Maine then stood up and stared at him intensely.

"I do! Believe me and that's the reason why I came back. I want to make things right. And in case you're wondering kung nagbalikan kami nang nanay mo the answer is no. Nag-usap na kami and we're just friends now. Our main focus is you. I want to make it up to you. Gusto kong bumawi sa lahat nang mga naging kasalanan ko sa'yo and I wanna start now."

Her father's words immediately crushed some of the walls she built around her. Maine spent most of her life hating him for leaving them when she was small. She saw her mother suffer because of his abandonment. And that made her see him as the worst father in the world.

"Why now?" she asked again.

"Because ..."

"Because what? Because you saw me on the news? Because we're doing great without you?" Maine asked him.

"No."

"Then tell me."

"I just really miss you so bad. Nung umalis ako akala ko kaya ko kayong kalimutan. Yes, hindi maayos yung divorce naming nang nanay mo but over time, we were able to work it out. You, sa'yo lang ako hindi nagkaroon nang chance na ayusin ang lahat. Gusto kong makabawi, Maine. Please give me the chance na maging tatay sa'yo. Please." He begged.

Maine gulped. A part of her just wanted to drop the walls and give him a hug. But the bad memories he gave them kept on playing inside her head.

"I'll think about it." Maine replied after some thinking. Mr. Mendoza gave her a small smile before exiting her room.

It happened as soon as Richard woke up the next morning. He sat on the edge of his bed and closed his eyes. The familiar citrusy scent caressed his nose and quickly reminded him of someone.

"Lorraine ..." He whispered, hoping she would reply. The smell of her favorite perfume filled his room. A single teardrop fell down the side of his face. Richard stood up and walked towards his calendar. The current date was encircled. He turned the page over and saw a reminder written on the other side.

Lorraine's death anniversary ...

Richard's heart dropped. He returned to the bed and clutched his chest. He then wiped his tear away and took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry." He said, as though Lorraine could hear her.

Someone then started knocking on his door. Richard quickly stood up and walked closely towards it. His heart was beating fast and a voice inside his head was telling him not to open it for Lorraine could be waiting on the other side. Thankfully, he heard a familiar voice call him.

"Richard??!! Are you awake?!" Ruru asked before knocking once more.

"Yes I am!" he replied before opening the door.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, why?" Richard asked.

"Tita called me and asked me to check up on you right away. Death anniversary daw ni Lorraine ngayon."
