LVII. - Life Lessons -

Richard took a deep breath and entered Mr. Mendoza's apartment. He walked towards the couch and looked at Maine's Dad.

"Sit." He told him and so he did.

"Ano yung gusto mong pag-usapan tungkol kay Maine?" Mr. Mendoza asked him before disappearing into the kitchen. Richard gulped and wiped his sweaty hands at the sides of his jeans. A few seconds later, Mr. Mendoza returned and handed him an opened bottle of cold beer. Richard took it and quickly sipped some to ease his anxiety.

"Thank you po." He told her Dad.

"Walang anuman. Ano na yung gusto mong pag-usapan tungkol kay Maine?" Mr. Mendoza questioned him. Richard took a deep breath and just went straight to the point.

"Can I marry your daughter, Sir?"

"Akala ko isang taon kayo sa US? Bakit po bumalik na kayo agad?" Maine asked Dr. Mendez a few moments after welcoming her inside the house.

"Hindi na kasi natuloy yung second leg nung Doctor's meet. Na-clear yugn sched ko dahil dun. Tapos nabalitaan ko rin na umuwi na pala sina Lawrence dito kaya naisipan ko na ring sumunod na ako," Dr. Mendez replied before asking "Kumusta na pala kayo ni Richard?" .

"Okay naman po. Akalain niyo yun? Nahulog ako dun sa mayabang at mokong niyong pamangkin." Maine answered with a smile on her face. The doctor laughed a bit before asking how it all started.

"Paano mong nalaman na in love ka na sa kaniya?"

"Actually ... wow artista ... ah, hindi ko po alam kung kelan yung exact date na na-in love ako sa kaniya. Yung alam ko lang po is kung kelan nagbago yung tingin ko kay Richard. Nag-start po yun pagkatapos niya akong iligtas dun sa mga robbers na pumunta dito." Maine responded, remembering the fateful night that changed everything between her and Richard.

"Ay oo nga pala. Sorry ah kasi hindi ako nakatawag sa iyo nun. Buti na lang nandun si Richard. Siya talaga knight in shining armor mo ano?"

"Oo nga po, hindi ko nga alam kung ano ng nangyari sa akin kung hindi dumating yung 8th wonder of the world na yun."

"Nasan na nga pala si Richard? Di ko nakita sasakyan niya dun sa harap?"

"Baka po may nilalakad? Busy nga po yun lately eh. Wala naman siyang shoot o kaya modeling commitments pero umaalis pa rin." Maine replied, getting a bit concerned because Richard wasn't telling her the reason for any of his recent trips.

"Well ... baka naman may client na naman dun sa party planning business niya. Na-kwento ng kapatid ko nung minsan na sobrang saya daw ni Richard simula nung naging kayo. She told me na naging positive daw tsaka mas responsible si Richard , hindi na rin daw siya madalas mag-party kahit pa lagi naman siyang invited. Maine, you really know how to tame a man." Dr. Mendez said, making her blush.

"Ay, thank you po ... ehe."

"Si Mama mo tsaka si Gabbi?"

"Nag-grocery lang po pero pabalik na rin po niyan sila." Maine replied.

"Oh sige ... uwi muna ako ah? Balik na lang ako mamaya. Matutulog pa rin pala niyan ako ... jetlag eh." Dr. Mendez told her. Maine laughed a bit and walked the doctor out. A few minutes later, she picked up her phone and called Richard. His phone rang a couple of times but he didn't answer. Her call got diverted to his voicemail.

Hey, this is Richard .... You know what to do ... leave a message after the beep ...

Maine let out a frustrated sigh and ended the call. She just sat on the couch and stared at the clock, wondering what Richard has been up to and why he wasn't answering her call.
