XLI. - Nurse Maine -

"Are you sure he's sick? Baka naman nagsasakit-sakitan lang yun?" Maine asked Ruru as soon as she reached their house.

"Yep, I touched his forehead. Mainit."

"Wait, alam mo bang mag-alaga ng may sakit?" Gabbi asked her.

"Of course ... akong nag-aalaga sa'yo kapag may sakit ka, remember?" she asked back.

"Ay, oo nga pala. Ru, she's good." Gabbi told her boyfriend. The three of them then went to the second floor of the house. Maine took a deep breath and knocked on Richard's door.

"Who's there?" a rough throaty voice she immediately discerned as Richard's asked from the other side.

"It's me, babe!" Maine replied.

"Come in!" he said and so she placed hand a hand on the knob and opened the door. Maine, Gabbi, and Ruru then walked in, only to see Richard staring at them while underneath three thick layers of blanket.

"How are you?" Maine asked.

"I've been better." He replied. She moved closer and placed a hand on his forehead, only to feel the hot temperature of his skin.

"Shit ... may lagnat ka nga." Maine said.

"Sa baba lang kami ah, call us when you need anything," Gabbi told her.

"Yung thermometer na lang natin ... wala ata sila."

"Okay." Her cousin replied. She and Ruru then left the room, leaving Maine and Richard behind.

"Oh ano? Magpapa-ulan ka pa niyan?" Maine asked before sitting at the edge of his bed. Richard moved his head from side to side. He stretched out his body properly and hugged the pillow beside him like a little kid.

"Do you need anything? What do you want?"

"Ano .... uh ... kiss siguro ... para gumaganda-ganda pakiramdam ko." He uttered and Maine rolled her eyes at him.

"Para-paraan ka eh no?'"

"What? I'm serious."

"Fine ... pero wala sa lips ah? Baka mahawa ako."

"Okay." He said with a cheeky smile on his face.

"Where do you want me to kiss you?" she asked and Richard pointed at his cheeks.

"Sa cheeks .... sa noo .... Sa tip ng nose .... Sa neck-"

"HOY!"

"What?"

"Neck talaga? Hoy Richard, hindi ibig sabihing may sakit ka eh makaka-jackpot ka na ah."

"Well, it was worth the try." He admitted and smiled at her. His flushed skin and reddened eyes became the primary indications that something wasn't right with him. Maine smiled back and decided to kiss his cheeks and forehead, leaving the tip of his nose untouched.

"Okay ... steady ka lang ah. Kukuha lang ako ng water tapos hilamusan na kita." She told him. The door then opened and Ruru walked in. He gave her the thermometer and walked out again.

"I have a better idea," Richard said before coughing.

"What?"

"Paliguan mo na lang ako ng hot water para mas mabilis akong gumaling." He answered. Richard then tried to sit up but his arms gave up on him. Maine quickly came to the rescue and helped Richard rest his back against the headboard. She even placed a pillow behind him so he'll be able to sit comfortably.
