28. Plane Rides

Amelias Pov

Calum sent me a text telling me to pack for a weeks stay.

I did as told and I was so thrilled.

But I wanted to dress like a new yorker.

I packed anything and everything that reminded me of Blair. And I told Calum to pack a suit and bowtie for when we were in Manhattan so we could pretend we're sophisticated.

After everything that's happened, running away even for a small small amount of time, just seems wonderful. The only person who will know me is Calum.

No one will know me as the girl who had amnesia.

The girl who's never known the truth.

The girl with the fake family.

The girl who's dad died.

The girl who's mom was an alcoholic.

The girl who cut herself.

No. There, I'll be the girl in the pretty dress, with a handsome guy around her. The girl who's story is hidden.

I had all my things that I needed to bring packed.

Calum was loading my things in the taxi and as I was locking up the front door another taxi pulled up.

I squinted to look inside confused and then I saw Ashton. "Ashton!" I yelled.

He smiled and waved and walked to the other side of the car. Calum looked over his shoulder and walked over to Ashton while Ashton was opening the door.

Out came Retaj.

"Retaj!" I squealed. I left the door wide open and ran to her and she gave me a big hug. "You're back." I smiled.

"Yes, but um..what are you doing?" She asked looking at our taxi with bags in the trunk.

"Calum and I are leaving for a while."

"What? But.. I just got back!"

"Aw Retaj I know! I'm sorry. But it's just for a week." I gave her a hug and dangled my house key in front of her. "Take care of the place for me?"

She nodded. "Have fun." she smiled.

That's what I love about Retaj. She doesn't ask questions, she just knows what I have to do.

"I'll see you soon." I giggled. "You too Ash!"

"Bye Amelia. Bye Calum!"

"See you soon mate." Calum

Planes always made me extremely nervous. Calum offered me the window seat but I didn't want it, I didn't want to look down at the ground.

 

As the plane was taking off I was digging my palms and nails into the side of my arm rests.

Calum gently put his hand on mine and then grabbed it. "Everything's alright." he said calmly.

I just nodded.

The plane shook really hard and I gasped and dug my nails into Calums hand. He didn't even flinch. I slowly loosened the grip.

Calum just smiled at me. He tapped gently on the window. "Look,"

I shook my head. "I've never been able to look out the window.."

"I wish we were birds, I wish we could roam above the clouds without a care in the world." he looked at me. "You know who said that?"

I just looked at him.

"You did."

I pointed my finger towards myself. "Me?"

He nodded. I didn't move, and he grabbed my hand into both of his and his beautiful dark eyes were looking into mine. "I would never let anything bad happen to you again. I swear that on my life. Now trust me."

I took a deep breath. "Okay."

I slowly leaned over Calum with my eyes closed, my face was in front of the window. Calum slowly put his hand on my back and started rubbing it. I opened my eyes..

"Beautiful..." the word escaped from my mouth.

It really was. We were in the clouds and it was all so happy, and clean.

Calum whispered into my ear. "We're roaming above the clouds."

I smiled.

 

Calum eventually traded me seats because I wouldn't stop looking out the window.

I was staring out into the distance and he gently squeezed my hand.

I looked at him.

"I love you."

I smiled wide. "I love you too."

I loved when he said that, but this was the third time he's said it on this plane ride.

"Calum, you say I love you a lot. Not complaining, I love it but, you say it a lot."

He looked down. "I know." he grinned to himself. "It's just, I want to make up for all the times I wish I could have said that to you but couldn't."

Oh Calum..my heart clenched. "I love you."

He looked at me and smiled. "I love you."

The plane started shaking and the we were all told to fasten our seatbelts.

Everyone was murmuring loudly and the flight attendants were walking around like crazy.

"Calum.."

He squeezed my hands, "Hey everything's okay it's fine."

"No..Calum I -"

"Amelia? Amelia?"

My anxiety was up the roof and it was getting hard to breath.

I kept seeing Calums face in and out and I was gasping for air

then all I saw was black.
