Brother's Best Friend (Jack Gilinsky - pt. 5)

GILINSKY

"Madison what is your problem? You've been in a pissy mood since we got here," I ask my girlfriend.

"Problem? I don't have a problem," she says, clearly annoyed.

"Fine. Don't tell me. I'm going to get a drink." I stand and walk into the kitchen, finding J by the cooler.

"Have you saw Em?" he asks.

"Last time I saw her she was dancing with Stas."

"She's pissed at me," he says.

"What'd you do?"

"Asked if she wanted to talk about what happened between you guys at the mall. What did happen?"

"So that's where you disappeared to after breakfast this morning. I should've known," Madison says from behind me. JJ walks off, leaving me alone with her. I shake my head and walk into the living room. Madison follows me and we end up in a corner of the room.

"Unbelievable. I should have known you were going to go crawling back to Emily," Madison sneers.

"I just went to apologize. It's not like we had sex in the food court. Chill the fuck out Madison."

"That bitch has been trying to break us up since we got together," she shouts, pointing angrily at Emily across the room.

"First off, do NOT ever call her a bitch again. Second, you're crazy, she has not been trying to break us up. Why would she do that?!" I yell back, also gesturing at Em.

"BECAUSE SHE'S IN LOVE WITH YOU!!!! You know what Jack? I can't do this anymore. You're gonna have to choose, it's me or her." I look at Madison, taking in what she said. Emily? In love with me? I mean I love her too but I never thought she saw me as anything other than a brother.

"Jack?! Are you even listening to me? Pick."

"Emily," I say. Madison's eyes widen in shock.

"What?" she asks in disbelief.

"I said I choose Emily." Before I can react I feel Madison slap me.

EMILY

"I-I don't have a problem," Madison stutters.

"Clearly you do if you're slapping my best fucking friend," I tell her.

"I'll ask again. What the hell is your problem?"

"Bitch, you're my problem. You've been trying to break us up forever. You're just jealous that you can't have a decent relationship like our because no guy fucking wants you for anything more than sex. So why don't you go off to fuck with Dillon or Derek or Skate or whoever and leave me alone." I grin before letting a punch fly.

"Do not ever fucking talk about me like that again you pathetic ass child," I say tackling Madison to the ground. We both get some hits in before I feel arms wrap around me and pull me back.

"Get out of here Madison. We're done," Jack says from behind me. Madison storms off.

"Lemme go," I say as I break out of Jack's arms. I stomp off and upstairs, pushing people out of the way before slamming my door on the party that's still raging downstairs. I change out of my dress and into sweats and a tee. I take my makeup off before walking out onto my balcony. Jack's gonna hate me. From here I can see Madison storming out. And there goes Jack to comfort her. I feel my eyes well with tears and I walk back into my room and fall back on my bed. I shouldn't have hit her. I screwed up any chance I had with Jack by doing that. Damn it.

GILINSKY

"Madison! Hold on," I call. She's walking quickly toward the road. I want to make sure she's okay, just cuz we broke up doesn't mean I have to be a total inconsiderate prick.

"What?" she snaps.

"How are you getting home?" I ask. She just shrugs.

"Let me at least get you an Uber," I say, pulling up the app.

"You're a good guy Jack Gilinsky. And as much as I hate to admit it, you and Emily will be perfect for each other." I smile a little.

"Your car should be here soon. Bye Mads," I kiss her cheek before stepping away.

"Bye Jack," she whispers. I head back up to the house, instinctively looking up at Em's room. I see a flash of her hair before the balcony is empty.

EMILY

There's a knock on my door a little while later and I open it to find Stas and Ana with Sammy and Skate in tow.

"Are you okay?" Stas asks. I shrug. Sammy pulls me to his chest and a few more tears slip out.

"Awe Emmy you know what she said wasn't true. You're wonderful and amazing and the exact opposite of what she said," Skate tells me as he nudges Sammy out of the way and pulls me into his arms. I sniffle.

"Wanna go get In-n-Out?" Stas asks. I wipe my tears and nod.

"This party's getting lame anyways. So much for the 'party of the year'." Ana hands me my Nike slides and we head back downstairs. Gilinsky is waiting at the bottom.

"Em?" he asks. He looks almost guilty. But there's a gleam of something else in his eyes...hope?.....love?....Whatever it is, it's enough for me to jump into his arms that he's holding out toward me. Without a second thought or time to talk myself out of it, I press my lips to his. Behind me, Stas, Sam, Ana, and Skate cheer. I pull back to find a huge smile on G's face.

"If you wouldn't have done it, I would have." Jack reconnects our lips and we both smile into the kiss. Finally.
