"Thank you, by the way, for completely deserting me in Spanish class today," I say through the phone. A laugh comes through the other end.

"I'm glad you get amusement from my pain. Asshole." The laughter continues.

"If you're going to laugh at me I'm hanging up Samuel." I close my journalism textbook and set my highlighter down.

"No! Don't hang up! I'm sorry Rachy," he exclaims. I grin to myself.

"Where were you in class today anyways homie?" I ask as I stand and stretch.

"With Stas." I roll my eyes. Sam's my best friend and has been since birth. However, his taste in girls sucks. First there was Tori. 9th grade. She was the popular girl in school. I didn't have a problem with her until we both made the JV cheer team. Suddenly she hated me for no reason and felt the need to criticize me about everything. Move to Joana, 10th grade. One hour with her made me feel like half of my brain cells have disappeared. Girl after girl and I couldn't stand any of them. Of course, I could never tell Sam that. The only time Sam has broken up with a girl because I said something was at the end of 10th grade. He started dating this girl, Claire. She had been my friend first, my best girl friend. She promised nothing would change if she dated Sam. But then she started hanging out more with him and less with me. To make matters worse, she took Sam away from me. So I told Sam I missed him and he broke it off with Claire. Claire then of course, got pissed at me for "breaking up" her and Sam and insisted that I broke them up because I'm in love with him. Yeah right, he's like my brother.

"Stas? Are you guys like a thing now?" I ask Sam.

"Yeah I guess. But what did we learn in Spanish?"

"A lot. Mostly stupid stuff like how to say shirt and stem changing verbs."

"Stem changing what? Speak english woman!"

"This is why you shouldn't skip class Amigo."

"Whatever. Can I come over so you can help me or what?"

"Or what," I tell Sam.

"I'll be over in ten. And I'll bring food."

"Fine. See you in a bit."

"Later homie," Sam says before hanging up. I quickly pick up my dorm room, Sam only lives one floor down so it won't take long for him to get here.

"Hey is it cool if Sam comes over to study Spanish?" I ask my roommates.

"As long as you finally admit how cute he is," Jennah says. I roll my eyes.

"Seriously. Those dimples? That messy brown hair? And don't even get me started on his eyes," Selena says, looking up from her laptop.

"And his ass!" Tiana calls from the bathroom.

"You guys are embarrassing," I tell them. A moment later there's a knock on the door and Sam walks in.

"Hello ladies," he greets, walking into our room.

"Okay, chocolate shake for Selena, vanilla for Jennah, cookies n' cream for Tiana, and strawberry for Rachel," he says, handing us cups from Steak n' Shake.

"This is why we love you Sammy," T says, sitting on the couch with her cup.

"T didn't you just say something about Sam's-"

"Rachel shut up!" Tiana says, cutting me off. She glares at me and I smile back innocently.

"Aren't you two supposed to be studying or something?" T asks. I grin and pull Sam into my room.

"So....Spanish," he says, sitting on my bed. I sit in my desk chair and grab my Spanish book and notes. Sam's phone goes off as we look at the chapter together.

"It's Stas," he says. I look at him as I take a sip of my shake.

"Sorry, what were we talking about?" Sam asks, putting his phone back in his pocket.

"Uh, stem changers. So 'comenzar' changes from 'e' to 'ie'. No digas 'comenzas', digas 'comienzas'. Right?" I ask Sam. He looks at me blankly.

"What?"

"'Comenzar' has an 'e' in it right? But for whatever reason in Spanish, the 'e' turns into 'ie' in certain forms. So you wouldn't say 'comenza' because that's grammatically incorrect and a native Spanish speaker would look at you like you were an idiot. So you'd say comienzas. Same with 'jugar'. The 'u' changes to 'ue'. So instead of 'jugas' you'd say..."

"'Juegas'?" Sam asks.

"Exactly. We go through a few more examples before Sam's phone starts ringing again.

"Stas?" I ask. He nods before answering.

"Whaddup?" I set my Spanish stuff on the bed before grabbing my journalism book and highlighter again.

"I'm studying Spanish with Rach right now," Sam tells the girl on the other end of the phone.

"I don't know, I'll probably hang around for a bit." Sam looks over at me and smiles apologetically.

"I skipped out on Spanish to hang with you though. I'm not ditching her again for you Stas," Sam says, sounding slightly annoyed.

"Okay well when you're done being like that you can call me and we can figure something out." I wince a little, knowing that Sam is only fighting with his new fling because of me.

"Yeah, I'll talk to you later Stas," he says before hanging up.

"Sorry Rach." I shrug.

"Sam we can study some other time if you wanna go hang out with her or whatever."

"No way, we've barely hung out all semester. I'm not just gonna leave because some girl called," he says. I still feel bad.

"Actually I have to meet with my group for a sociology project soon so I have to leave anyways. Seriously it's fine." I start grabbing my sociology stuff to make my lie a little more believable.

"Are you sure?"

"Totally. We can meet up some other time. It's cool. Go see your girl," I tell him. He leans over and kisses my cheek before walking out of my room.
